Can HIV Or STD Be Contracted Through Oral Sex?

default
Posted on Mon, 21 Dec 2015
Question: Hi,
I am 25 and bi-curious and 5 days ago I performed my first oral sex(never indulged in any sexual activity before) where I sucked for 5 mins. It ended there where my partner ejaculated outside and not inside my mouth.
From past couple of days, burning at anal area is increasing and I could feel some pain on teeth gums. And now burning has started at penis area.
I want to test for it as soon as possible.
What are the chances of STDs(importantly HIV) being transmitted for what I performed?
What tests should I conduct?
Where in XXXXXXX is the good and confidential place to conduct the test?
I am really worried. Your advice would be of great help.

Thank You in Advance

Brief Answer:
Risk of STDs is less with oral sex but still requires testing

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us

I have gone through your query and I have understood your concern

Performing oral sex does put you at risk of certain STDs like oral herpes, pharyngeal gonorrhea, chlamydia, Hiv, syphilis however the risk for STDs is less with oral sex as compared with vaginal or anal sex.
Nevertheless I suggest you to get tested for all of these at 4 weeks and retest at 12 weeks

These tests are performed at all recognized laboratory with a doctor's prescription. You can visit a dermatologist and get the tests ordered. And yes, the test and the results are confidential.

Thank you very much for your prompt reply.
I have some queries .
- is it 4 weeks after the sexual encounter ?
- as it is almost a week, what is the immediate step i can take ?
- do dermatologists check for these kind of cases as they are specialists on skin and hair .

i am seriously worried and constantly thinking of this and not able to concentrate on ofher matters.

Brief Answer:
Screen at 4 weeks after sexual contact

Detailed Answer:
Hi.

Yes, screen at 4 weeks after the sexual encounter and then retest at 12 weeks. Moreover if you notice any sores or ulcers in or around oral mucosa you may visit a dermatologist. A Dermatologists is the right person to contact for STD related issues. In XXXXXXX dermatology and venereology are parts of a MD Degree (Skin and VD). Whereas in UK, dermatology and reproductive tract infections are separate specialities.
Performing unprotected oral sex is a risk for acquisition of STDs but as i have already told you it has the lowest risk as compared to unprotected vaginal or anal sex specially if there was no ejaculation inside oral cavity. Anyways you need to rule out that little bit of risk with appropriate tests.

Thank you . I will surely get myself checked at 4th week and 12th week.
From past two days i am getting pain under arm. After googling i found it is the place where lymph nodes reside .
Is there anything to worry ?

Brief Answer:
Should not be a cause for concern

Detailed Answer:
Hello. I suggest that you get yourself examined by a physician if it is indeed due to lymph node involvement. In that you would require a course of an oral antibiotic but it anyway does'nt seem to be related to oral sex.
