Can HIV Be Treansmitted Despite Protected Sex?

Question: Dear Doctor, I am very worried and would like your advice. Last night I went to XXXXXXX sauna and had active protected anal sex with a guy whose HIV status was assumed positive. We started by stroking each other's penis for 2-3 mins then I went on topping him. My first entry was not successful as my penis only entered the outside of his anus briefly so I pulled it out, stroked a few times to maintain erection and tried again, and it was OK (would my hand have touched his faeces or even blood in the process?! ). During sex we were in a doggy position so it was possible that he was masturbating himself and shot his load onto the mattress, though I wasn't looking and therefore not sure. After anal sex he asked me to lay my back on the mattress so he could place his face to receive my sperm. Now the problem: while dressng up in locker room I found a cut on my finger as I wiped my hands with alcohol tissue (it hurts so it was an open cut!), not big only about 2-3mm wide, and I wasn't sure if it was new or there already while playing with this guy. If it's the latter, what are my chances of getting HIV infection from what I have described? What if he did shoot on the mattress that my body/back/hands had come into contact with his semen? Would HIV have entered the wound while I stroked his penis (I didn't feel much precum though)? Thanks in advance for your help! XXXXXXX

Brief Answer: Your risk for HIV is negligible.Rule out with test Detailed Answer: Hi, Welcome to HCM. Thanks for posting your query. I can understand your concern. But I don't feel that you need to worry much. Your anal intercourse was a protective one. That was a wise thing you did. So your risk for HIV remains negligible only. Stroking other's penis with a cut in the hand, lying over the mattress which could be soiled with the partner's semen and all, made your HIV risk as negligible one as per CDC,Atlanta guidelines. HIV entering through a wound and skin of the back is a remote possibility as it cannot live outside the body and body fluids not more than few seconds. So you need not worry. After a HIV test and seeing the negative result, you will get relieved. So plan for a HIV test and not to worry unnecessarily. Dr SW.Murugan
