Can Claritin Used For Chronic Sinusitis Lead To Blurry Vision?

default
Posted on Fri, 23 Jan 2015
Question: I have ocular histoplasmosis and get injections of Avastin in affected eye monthly. The last month, both eyes have been increasingly blurry and I just had an eye exam and new glasses 8 months ago. I have also been taking Claritin for chronic sinusitis because my ENT prescribed Flonase which works, but then blood runs down the back of my throat occasionally.

I just read that Claritin can be related to blurry vision. Can you elaborate?

Brief Answer:
Unlikely to be caused by claritin

Detailed Answer:
Hello

My name is Dr Muhammad Ali Rauf & i will look into your problem.

I have gone through your query and would try to help you in the best possible way. Claritin is an antihistamine (loratidine). It is given for allergic symptoms. It is highly unlikely for claritin to cause blurry vision.

On the other hand Claritin-D which contains a combination of loratadine and pseudoephedrine may cause blurry vision because of presence of pseudoephedrine, which is a decongestant. If your ENT doctor prescribed you Claritin-D then you can discuss with him to change to Claritin only or some other antihistamine. If you are already taking Claritin and blurry vision occurred so there are chances that it occurred because of preexisting ocular histoplasmosis.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help if not then don't forget to close the discussion and rate it.
Wishing you good health !!
