Can Asprin Be Taken When Suffering From Low Grade Fever Along With Cough?

default
Posted on Mon, 2 Mar 2015
Question: My husband, 87 yrs old, has had a nagging cough for four days....feels washed out, low grade fever. It is not in his chest but upper throat. He can not take any cough medicine or losenges with anti-histamine because he has enlarged prostate. Did do the Vick's on feet last night and he slept round the clock. Has zero appetite. Temperature 100.5 Can he take an aspirin tablet?

Brief Answer:
yes, can use it

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

If he has no history of allergy to aspirin, not on any anticoagulants (Eg warfarin), no history of stomach ulcers, then it can be used with something to eat or drink.
It would help with any discomfort he may be experiencing and also help with the fever.

They are some cough syrups that contain only cough suppressants with no antihistamines.
The cough suppressant most commonly used is dextromethorphan. You can check your pharmacy to find out if they have meds with only this ingredient.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
