Can Armour Thyroid Medication Cause Heart Problems?
Question: IS ARMOUR THYROID 30 MG. DANGEROUS FOR WOMEN OVER 65. MY DOCTOR RECENTLY SWITCHED ME FROM THIS MEDICINE TO A LEVOTHYROXINE 25 MCG PILL. HER REASON WAS BECAUSE ARMOUR CAN CAUSE SERIOUS HEART PROBLEMS. I HAVENT READ ANYWHERE ONLINE ABOUT THIS ISSUE. I HAVE BEEN TAKING ARMOUR FOR ABOUT 10 MONTHS AND SHE CALLED ME AT HOME ANE TOLD ME SOMETHING HAD COME ACROSS HER DESK ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND SHE WANTED ME TO SWITCH TO THE LEVOTHYROXINE.

I am so sorry to hear about this change and all the worrying thoughts this must have caused you. These medications are the same in terms of the active ingredient but for the names. It is strange to hear about this. If the problem was simply that she things 30mg is more than what you need and 25mg is more adapted, I will totally agree with her. If her concern is about the brand, I have not read or heard of that. The fact that for 10months you had no issues would have give more reasons not to switch this medication without a real backing. I were your treating doctor, I will not be switching at this time.
