Can Amlodipine Be Discontinued Abruptly?

Question: On 10mg of amlodipine for about 6 months now, feel overly strong heart beat and is somtimes irregular. Contacted my doctor and he told me to stop taking it. How long untill the symptoms lesson.

Dear Sir,

It is not safe to stop taking Amlodipine abruptly, you may develop high blood pressure. And it is not mandatory that your complaints of irregular heart beat caused by Amlodipine. You need to have an ECG done, if you have no complaints during the ECG and the ECG comes back normal, then there is a need for 24 hour ECG monitoring to find out what arrhythmia causes your complaints.
If you have already stopped Amlodipine, then monitor your blood pressure frequeltly.
