Can Adderall Be Taken For Symptoms Of ADHD?

default
Posted on Fri, 17 Jun 2016
Question: I used to take adderal 30mg QD and tried to back off but my symptoms are taking over and causing a lot of issues in school. I can't finish assignments without jumping to another and I get distracted for hours at a time doing other projects that are totally unrelated to my class work. I also find myself talking over people and interrupting them. Can you help?

I moved from my hometown to a new city for graduate school and have been having trouble finding a psychiatrist who is taking new patients. Are you able to write prescriptions?

Detailed Answer:
Hello, and thanks for your question.

The symptoms you describe are consistent with ADHD. Adderall is a safe and effective medication to treat these symptoms. If Adderall 30mg daily was working well for you, and biofeedback is not doing as well, it would be a reasonable thing to do to discuss restarting Adderall with your prescribing physician. Adderall can cause side effects to be aware of including anxiety, tremor, insomnia, appetite loss, and weight loss. But if these potential negative side effects are balanced out by helping you to remain calm and concentrate in school, then I would give it another try.

Detailed Answer:
Unfortunately it is illegal for any doctor to write a prescription over the internet, especially for controlled substances -- this requires an in-person exam. However, by searching your insurance company's website for providers, you should be able to find someone who can evaluate you. I believe Adderall would be appropriate for you and I'm sure a reasonable psychiatrist in your area would agree.
