I seem to have bubbles in my urine in the morning. They disappear when my urine is clear but as the urine yellows the bubbles increase. I did a urine dipstick x5 that showed no protein or sugar. Last labs were 10 months ago had a gfr> 95 and cr .98

Brief Answer:
It could be due to concentrated urine.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your query.Based on the facts that you have posted it appears that you have noticed bubbles in your urine in the morning.

In absence of any urinary symptoms this is most likely to be due
1) Concentrated urine due to less consumption of water.
2) Holding a urine for long time as it happens during sleep.

If your water consumption is less the resulting urine is concentrated and contains more proteins which forms a bubbles in urine when one passes urine.

If one holds urine for long time as it happens in night due to sleep bladder is comparatively filled with large quantity of urine which is being passed forcibly during early morning .This urine which is passed with force hits against the commode and forms the bubbles.

If you have no other urinary symptoms do not worry at all.

Make a habit to pass urine before going to bed and once in the night to reduce the volume of urine .

Consume more water so that your urine is dilute.

If problem persists even after these measures consult qualified Urologist for clinical evaluation and to investigate to find out the cause of this problem.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any more questions please feel free to ask me I shall be happy to help you .
Thanks and Regards.

Follow-up: Bubbles in urine in the morning. What could this be? 6 minutes later
Thank you for the reply. I work in a hospital with patients that have something called "nephrotic syndrome" and they said that they were diagnosed from a urinary test for protein. So when I googled the symptoms of bubbly urine i saw protein and got nervous. Also sometimes my ankles get swollen at the end of the day and my socks leave lines?

Brief Answer:
It is not Nephrotic Syndrome at all.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for follow upNephrotic Syndrome is common in children and characterised by presence of 4+ protein in urine and urinary excretion of urine in 24 hours is 4 gms per day.,oedema over face ,body and legs.
Since your urine analysis does not show any protein do not think of Nephrotic Syndrome at all.

Swelling of the ankle that you get at the end of the day is dependant oedema due to prologed standing position while on work.

Thanks and Regards,
