Thanks for writing to us

Swelling all over the body at 38 weeks is usually due to PET or pre-eclamptic toxaemia of pregnancy. If two signs out of these three are present , wetake it as a case of toxaemia. These signs are :

1) swelling all over body especially on feet
2) albumin in urine
3) High blood pressure.
In PET there can be placental insufficiency and Intrauterine death.Other cause of fetal death can be cephalopelvic disproportion as you have mentioned the weight of baby was 4 kg so C-section should have been done earlier with regular follow ups.

Other cause of big baby with IUD can be gestational diabetes.I hope doctors did GTT for that.

Third cause can be hypoprotinemia with anemia but in that case the weight of baby is usually less and it is a growth retarded baby or IUGR baby so chances of third cause seem less to me.

Taking salt water with sugar and XXXXXXX will not cause death in one day , there must be an underlying cause which was not detected.

Now get her regular BP check up done as well as blood sugar levels and VDRL tests done.Retina check up should also be done.
Salt restricted diet is always good for the weight control.
As she has lost her baby so try to keep her happy and plan for the next after 6 months with proper evaluation and diagnosis.I would like to know the mode of delivery , whether it was vaginal delivery or LSCS.

Best wishes and take care
