Hi XXXX, Thanks for using XXXXXXX

1. In diabetes morning raise in sugar levels suggest that the activity of insulin / drugs is reduced during night. This can happen due to reduced dosage of insulin (intermediate acting) at night or absence of other drug effects.

2. Normally in morning hours there is increased secretion of hormones like cortisol, growth hormone etc, which tends to increase sugar levels and hence there will be raised sugar levels. Bur Insulin acts against them to reduce sugar level so as to maintain normal sugar levels.

3. So if you are using Insulin then need to adjust the night dose, if using drugs need to take sustained release or controlled release drugs to prevent morning raise in sugar levels.

4. Alcohol up to 20g is good but more than that is harmful to health as they release un storable energy and hence affect sugar levels in blood.

5. Best diet: You can have all food but the total calorie intake should match the calorie required for your normal weight and activities. This also depends on your life style. You can take low glycemic index food and avoid high glycemic index food. Avoid roots and tubers and have more of green leafy vegetables and pulses. Divide calorie intake into multiple time and have food.

6. Adequate regular activities like cycling, swimming, jogging and aerobic exercises help in maintaining your sugar levels.

Hope I answered your question. Consult your doctor for further management.

Hi,

Thanks for the follow up question.

20 grams means 2 standard drink or 2 units of alcohol. A standard drink is any type containing 10 grams of alcohol. One unit of alcohol is equal to 10ml (just under 10 grams) of ethanol.

For calculating how many units there are in a drink. Just multiply the volume (in ml) by the alcohol content (in %) and then divide by 1000.

Hence, for 13.5% wine, 75ml is 75x13.5/1000 = 1.013 units.
For 5% beer, 330ml bottle is 330x5/1000 = 1.65 units.

Hope I clarified your query. If you are satisfied with the answer kindly rate it and close the query. Wish you good health.

Regards,
