Are Ultrasound Conception Dates Accurate?

default
Posted on Wed, 18 Mar 2015
Question: How can she be conceived on the 25th through 29th if she was 2-3 weeks on February 4th? Maybe the ultrasound was off by a few day?

Brief Answer:
Give date of last period and pregnancy test date

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for the questions.
It would have been nice if you had written the date of her last menstrual period and the date of positive pregnancy test. This would help me give a crisp answer.

You wrote saying she conceived between January 25-29. So I presumed it to be her ovulation time.
It appears you had ultrasound on 4th. Was there a tiny baby sac seen? By transvaginal ultrasound it is sometimes possible to see baby sac at 4+ weeks. In that case your wife has ovulated before 25th January. Please note that the weeks are counted from last menstrual period. Few doctors count from ovulation date.
Do you have any further concerns. Do write to me.

I'm so sorry she took the test on the 4th. She doesn't have regular period. I think her last period ended around the 10th of january. And one more question how long can sperm live in the females body.
And would it be possible for her to have conceived around the 18-22?
Because apparently. Those ultrasounds can be off a few days, give or take.

Brief Answer:
Ovulation possible on 18-22. Sperms live for 6-7 days

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Now the picture is quite clear.
I will answer your questions one by one.

If her last period ended on 10th January, then she must have started period on 3rd-4th.
Yes it is possible for her to ovulate around 18-22.
Sperms can live in female body for 6-7 days.
As per my explanations given above, pregnancy test can definitely be positive on 4th February.
By transvaginal ultrasound sometimes a tiny sac can be seen at 4+ weeks of pregnancy.
I hope I have answered your concerns.
If you have further questions, do write to me. I will be happy to answer.
