Are Tingling Sensation In The Body And Chest Soreness After Workout Normal?

default
Posted on Tue, 23 May 2017
Question: Hi Doctor,

Today was my first day at the gym and I did 4 - one minute sets of The Battle Ropes Workout and biceps curls, push up on a string (10 reps of 4). I had felt tingling in my face and arms and lightheaded. My legs where tired and shaky. I also felt some burning sensation in the upper chest area and thirsty as well.

I ate - one boiled egg white , one multigrain bread with peanut butter and some greek yogurt as m breakfast.

I did my stress test and other tests recently and all are normal and no heart health conditions.
I ate breakfast 1 hour before the exercise. I drank a large glass of water along with break fast.

I am taking B-6/Folic Acid/ B-12 1 tablet under the tongue .

I am worried if there is any medical condition which is causing this issue ? I am 5'11" and 166 lbs and my BMI is 23 and with body fat 20%. I am active - cardio work outs, but never did weight trying.
I am not sure what triggered this, and i am a bit worried now, is there any serious health condition which might be triggering it?

I have a slight head ache now, which started like an hour back or so.

Brief Answer:
A serious condition very unlikely.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

Since you have been checked for heart conditions and resulted negative for any and since this was your first day at the gym, I don't think there is any serious underlying condition that caused you symptoms.

Furthermore, symptoms you describe are not specific for any condition, since they started after physical effort transient hypoxemia may be the culprit.

This happens as your body isn't adapted yet to the new physical regimen.

I would say that the next time you go to the gym you try to start slowly and do the half of the reps you mentioned.

Staying well hydrated, taking sufficient calories before the gym ( mainly carbohydrates, or sugar ), is necessary to prevent those issues, besides the supplements you are taking.

If the condition will persist for one or two weeks, getting evaluated by your primary care Doctor about lungs function is necessary.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Hi Doctor,

I was exercising today - Body cardio on a stationary bike - I felt my cheek and around the lip with tingling sensation. My heart rate was not < 140 as far as I know. Do you think there is something to worry ?

I am exercising as I am writing this - my face is tingling now and i went to 170 ppm for 3 min 34 seconds. My face is tingling now around the lips and cheeks. Is there anything concerning which I should go see a doctor ? I am a little bit worried.

Brief Answer:
Do some pauses between exercises.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back.

I don't think you should worry much more than necessary, first get some rest ( a couple of minutes ) between exercises.

You'll see that the tingling will go away and your heart rate will normalize.

Take care.

Yeah the tingling went away after few. I am not sure what causes it though, I exercised for 30 min on the indoor bike and felt the tingling. Can that be any injury or MS? i was searching web forums and it kind a made me scary.

Is it blood flow related issue? I am taking it slow and not pushing hard.

the sensation of tingling is still there - but when i said went away - it didn't go away completely. I am resting now.. ..heart rate is 110. I don't have hypertension or high BP or Diabetics.

Tingling is gone completely now from last 40 min or so.

Brief Answer:
Give yourself more time.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again.

I see that you are paying much more attention than necessary to your issues.

I don't think you shouldn't worry about multiple sclerosis since your symptoms start after physical effort.

I think you should give more time to your body to adapt with the new physical regimen.

If your issues will persist after a couple of weeks, medical evaluation is necessary.

Hope I helped you.

Kind regards.
