Question: hello I am a cardiac patient for the last 15 years and have been through angioplasty procedure. My medications are as follows

Heart Medications

1. Coplavix once daily

2. Sustac 2.6 mg 1+1

3. Vastarel MR 35 mg 1+1

4. Concor 2.5 mg (Bisoprolol) 1+1

5. Advant 8 mg once daily

Diabetes Medicine

1. Galvus Met (combination vildagliptin 25 mg and metformin

For the last four days I have been taking a medicine called Tricardin which was suggested to me by a doctor and told me it being a natural product is quite safe. Just now my nephew who is also a doctor in training told me that these two medicines should not be taken together.
Also can you please have a look at the current medications I am taking. Are the combinations of these medicines in your opinion ok. Do you think vesterol, sustac, advant, co plavix and concor a good combination.
Thank you and best regards

Brief Answer:
I would explain as follows:

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!

I carefully passed through your question and would explain that your actual therapy seems to be OK!

There are no interactions between Coplavix, Advent, Vastarel, Sustac and Galvus/ met. So it is safe to take all these drugs concomitantly.

Regarding TriCardin, I would explain that it is a new herbal drug which have shown in many studies to have a lot of benefits in the cardiovascular system.

There are not many studies for any possible interactions with other drugs. It should only be taken with caution in patients receiving warfarin or heparin ( which is not your case).

So, I would recommend taking it as prescribed by your attending physician.

I would also advice checking periodically your

-blood lipid profile for possible dyslipidemia
- fasting glucose and HbA1C levels for a better control of diabetes.

A lot of physical activity, coupled with a healthy diet (Mediterranean diet) would be recommended in your clinical situation.

Hope you will find this answer helpful!

Feel free to ask me again whenever you need!

Kind regards,

Dr. Iliri

Brief Answer:
My opinion as follows:

Detailed Answer:
Hello again!

As you are a cardiac patient and have passed through a coronary angioplasty anti-aggregation therapy with Aspirin and Plavix are highly recommended.

So, even after starting Tricardin, I recommend to keep using Coplavix as previously.

At least one of the ingredients (Aspirin/Plavix) should be always present in your chronic therapy.

But, before making any possible modifications on your actual therapy, I strongly recommend discussing with your prescribing doctor, as he knows exactly your previous medical history, the details of the performed angioplasty procedure and the overall cardiovascular status.

Regards,

Dr. iliri
