Are Missed Heart Beats A Cause For Concern?

default
Posted on Wed, 15 Jun 2016
Question: I just took a sleep study last night using a pulse oximeter and noticed that I had what seemed like a very irregular heart beat, that is, alot of missed beats. I haven't felt anything unusual but the readout on the device made it quite obvious. That was this am but now it is much more regular but I still miss a few beats. PVCs right? I have also been having a hard time getting my blood pressure regulated. I take Finasteride, Levothyroxin, Atorvastatin, Escitalopram, Losartan HCTZ and Amlodopine. Family history of HBP, elevated cholesterol, stroke and heart failure (father) and heart attck (brother). Non smoker, modest alcohol (5 drinks/week), dentist, with uneven exercise schedule

I have had an angiogram which showed minor luminal disease.

Brief Answer:
Not a cause for concern.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

Missed beats are normal to be found and are not a cause for concern. They can be due to PVCs. They need no intervention. They are independent of the condition of blood flow to the heart (measured by coronary angiogram) or the history of hypertension or the family history of other ailments (as mentioned). Your doctor has to experiement with the dosing and there is nothing wrong in it so long as you take the medicines on regular basis and do not self medicate.

Just stay relaxed and things would be fine.

Regards
