Are Lightheadedness, Weakness In Legs And Foggy Feeling Symptoms Of Sinus Infection?

default
Posted on Sat, 25 Jul 2015
Question: About 4-5 days ago, I started having some lightheadedness. Really no other symptoms. My legs have felt a bit week, but not sure if I'm just thinking this in my head. Feeling lightheaded will come and go. When I lie down at night, it goes away and really don't feel it again until I get up and moving around for awhile the following day. Could this be a sinus infection coming out this way or inner ear issue? I just feel pretty foggy and a bit disoriented. Are there over the counter medications or possibly decongestant that would help?

Detailed Answer:
I read your question carefully and I understand your concern.

Those symptoms you mention are not very specific, meaning that they could a manifestation of many causes. At times they can be a manifestation of anxiety which the doctors seem to think you are prone to. I don't think it's a question of sinusitis which usually has other symptoms like headache, nasal congestion. Inner ear issues can't be excluded, though usually there is more marked vertigo (spinning sensation).

However before hurrying into labelling it as an anxiety issue some routine tests should be conducted to exclude so me common causes such as blood pressure abnormalities, electrolyte disturbances, anemia, thyroid dysfunction, nutritional deficiencies etc.

For that reason I would recommend tests like blood count, ESR, CRP, glucose, liver and kidney function indicators, electrolytes, thyroid function, vitamin B12 and D, EKG. A neck xray might be useful as well although arthritis apart from being uncommon at your age has usually some neck pain and stiffness.
Wouldn't hurry into taking medication for now, only staying hydrated, regular sleeping and eating hours.

I remain at your disposal for further questions.
