Are Itchy Anus And Erection Problems Indicative Of Diabetes

default

Question: Hello,
I wonder if you help clarify a situation.
My mother had diabetes as does my nephew - she had type 2 and he had type1
I have a few symptoms and was wondering if they would be signs of diabetes.
I am 58 years old - I have erection problems these days - I have an itchy anus - toenails 7 out of 10 with a fungal growth under the nail - (I remember my mother had similar) and tingling lips from time to time - and lost some weight
I don't have excess thirst and am not urinating constantly - but I do feel tired from time to time.

Brief Answer:
Need to investigate

Detailed Answer:
Good day,
Noted your concern.
The symptoms you mentioned are not specefic to diabetes. However, peri anal itching and fungal infections in toe nails are common in diabetes. Erectile dysfunction is common in diabetes and generally in men above 50 years.

As your Mom had diabetes, there is a 20-40% chance of you developing Type 2 Diabetes and negligible or nil chances of you developing Type 1 diabetes. ( based on your race).

The best thing to do is to discuss with your GP and get a thorough check up. Do you work with water a lot of time ( wimming/car wash/gardening etc?) Fungal infections are common in people whose nails are ffrequently wet.

Get a Fating blood glucose, Hba1c and an OGTT done. Along with it, please do a CBC, liver and kidney functions as well.

Regards
Binu
