Are Four Doses Of Rabipur Sufficient After A Dog Bite?

Question: Hello Doctor,

I was bitten by a dog on Nov 2,2015.I went to doctor,he prescribed me Rabipur 5 doses.(0,3,7,14 and 28).(Four doses has been complete,but last is due on Dec 2nd,2015)
I have taken all medicine on time.

But recently two days back one rabies dog has bitten me again.He seems to be street dog,and has bitten many people on same dog.

Now my 5th dose is pending on Dec 2,2015.

I am scared do i have to take all medicines again.This time dog is 100 percent rabies,and has typical rabies symptoms.

Some body told me i must go for (0,3 protocol) days again as Post Exposure.

Please suggest.I am very much scared.

Thanks for posting your query.

First of all relax. See , what you have been told is correct. You need to get additional 2 doses of Rabies vaccine for your new bite . But you don't have to take 5th dose + 2 additional dose .

Just take one dose on Dec 2 2015 and second dose on Dec 5 2015, this much is sufficient.

Hello Doctor,

I am little confused.

For (0,3) Protocol one dose is i suppose on day of bite and second on day 3rd.

And would not as i am already on rabipur vaccincation due to last month bite,my body will have antibodies to fight rabies virus(i heard it rabipur vaccination effects last for 6 month).Please see my last four dose are over and last one is remaining.

Please guide me i am scared and confused,Will it don't occur in overdose.

It depends on the immunity given by previous 4 shots of Rabipur.

Detailed Answer:
HI

I can understand your concern. See following a complete course of Rabies Vaccination you shall develop immunity to fight with Rabies Virus. Now that your course is not completed and you had a fresh bite .

You can do two things ,

1. Either after your 5th dose get tested for Anti Rabies antibodies and if it shows a protective level then there is no need for additional injections . But if it shows low levels you need to get 2 additional doses .

2. Just take 2 additional shots.

Among these , the second option is more cost effective.

Hello Doctor,
Thanks for helping me out.

Please help me following queries.
I forgot to tell you this time bite is in finger(is this come under category 3,His sharp teeth i have felt but no blood was seen)

1.If we are going by (0,3) protocol then, should not i be vaccinated two days back when i got bitten by dog i.e. Nov 21,and then after 3rd day,i.e. Nov 24th.

I have already missed Nov 21 then.Please suggest should i take tomorrow.

2. Arent i will too late if i will take only one more dose after due date of Dec 2nd,as WHO guidelines says (0,3) protocol.

3.Please guide me where these test Anti Rabies antibodies are available in XXXXXXX or nearby.As i found it is avilable only XXXXXXX and Banglore .I will keep it reference for booster dose.

Please see we can be late if we take dose on Dec 2nd.Please guide me i am very scared.I do not want to die from rabies.

See, don't forget that you are already on a course for the first dog bite . That regime should not be disrupted. So you need to finish that regime as it was scheduled before .

In addition you take one more dose on Dec 5.

I am not very sure but I think RFFIT test is done in XXXXXXX Other place are
XXXX, XXXX, XXXXXXX pradesh; XXXX, XXXX; XXXX, XXXXXXX XXXX,
XXXX; XXXX, XXXXXXX

Hello Doctor,

I have few more doubts,Please help in clarify me.

1.I have not taken any dietary precaution while on rabipur,i was involved in sexual activities,masturbation and was in lots of stress whole month,would there be any effects on working of medicine.

2.I have medicine from Forties XXXXXXX On Rabipur it was written as keep this under temp (2 - 8) degree,while taking the vaccine from hospital to nurse vaccine was under sunlight for minimum 15 mins(although it was packed inside cover),will it cause vaccine ineffecitve.(It happened for day zero dose of
Nov 2nd)..should i be worry about this or not..

3.If ans for 2 is yes then is there any thing i can do now..

Please advice..

Hi

There is no need to do any particular diet or to abstain from sex. So just relax.

The package in which you took the vaccine can keep it cool for up to 60-90 minutes . So there is no problem if it was out for 15 minutes.

You have received vaccine in proper way , don't worry. Just relax.
