Are Julmentin And Lorinase The Right Medicines For Ear Infection?

default
Posted on Mon, 23 Feb 2015
Question: A few weeks back, I felt some uneasiness in my left ear (not pain, but a sort of irritation); ENT specialist told me that my ear drum is getting bulged and it is due to an infection. He gave me Julmentin 1g, Lorinase tablets for one week. I have taken them, but did not fade out the symptoms. After a couple of weeks further, I felt a sort of colorless liquid discharge through the ear. Doctor told to take X Ray. Upon inspecting, he told there is an infection in my mastoid. He gave me Cipromax 750 mg for 10 days. Now, I dont have that discharge and irritation is reduced. But, still I have a sensation in the ear and feel to press the ear some times and I get some sounds like cracking a small balloon or so. Is it something strange or serious?

Brief Answer:
Seems middle ear infection.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, thanks for your query.
In my opinion, you might be having middle ear disease.
Middle ear effusion will cause reduced hearing, ear blockage, ear pain, cracking sound in the ear and ear discharge .
Treatment is correct. Cracking sound will be there for up to 6 weeks. Once the congestion reduces the middle ear blockage gets reduced and sound also will reduce. Nothing serious. It's a common middle ear infection.
Keep your ear dry. Regular follow up with the doctor is needed. Hope my answers have helped you. Thanks.

Thank you Doctor.

I will do a regular follow up with the doctor. However, the medicine is finished now. I was a bit tensed as I read about Mastoiditis from online articles and from those articles, I got shocked that mastoiditis lead to brain infections, etc., that's why I thought to take a second opinion whether my treatment is going in the right direction.

I went to the ENT specialist today. He checked my ear and told me that there is no puss or infection seen. Since I told him that there is still uneasiness or having the sound, he told there be some fluid trapped inside. He administered BETASONE TAB (Twice daily) for 14 days.
Hope this is right administration.
