Posted on Mon, 19 May 2014
Question: HI,I had an exposure to HIV,i did cunnilings on a sex worker in Dec 2013.I had tested at 8 week antibody tridot test which came our negative.I tested again at 10 week after the exposure antibody test tridot, western blot as well both came out negative. At 13 week tested again antibody test -chromatography method which also came out negative. My question is are these tests are conclusive after 3 months of exposure.DO i need further testings?I have oral thrush under cheeks which is not goin away.some times i feel blurry vision aswell.I am sexually active person had many partners before. Please tell me are these tests are conclusive to rule out infection for both HIV 1,2.I have also tested got syphilis (vdrl and tpha) at 10 week which is negative.

Your negative tests for HIV/Syphilis conclusive.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to HCM.
Thanks for posting your query.

HIV tests done after 12 weeks came negative for you. It is very much conclusive. You need no further test.
It is always better to have a protected sex in future.
Oral thrush in buccal cavity may be due to cunnilingus is a possibility without HIV. Otherwise we have to review the diagnosis of the condition. Consult a Dermatologist for further help.
VDRL is also conclusive.

Brief Answer:
Rapid chromatography is 100% reliable.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome back.

Almost all the tests marketed to detect HIV are more than 98% sensitive and specific.
Especially the Rapid Chromatography test for detection of HIV1 and HIV2 is a almost 100% sensitive and specific for HIV detection. So there is nothing to worry. You are 1005 safe and HIV free.
Smoking can cause whitish changes in oral mucosa.
Condom protected oral sex has no risk for HIV.

Brief Answer:
Normal people widow period within 3 months.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, Welcome back.
In normal situation an immuno-competent individual would not have a widow period extended beyond 3 months. Those who are having congenital immune deficiency, or on immune suppressive drugs like prolonged steroids, anti- cancer drugs or drugs given to patients who received organs or graft are likely to have an extended window period.
You need no more test for HIV.
