Are Desvenlafaxine And Duloxetine From Effexor Family?
Question: Thanks for your answer Dr. Jhunttrra, i forgot yo mention that I was taiking 50 mg of Paxil CR. Since there is only two presentations of Paxil CR (25 and 12.5), the only option i had wss taking 25 mg CR and 10 mg normal which is what Im doing.
I forgot to mention another part of the story. This is my second time with anxiety. I had PD and GAD between 1995 and 2000. At that time i was treated with Effexor and Clonacepam. I remember that muscle pain was also the hardest symptom to treat. In 2000 I migrated from my country Colombia to Canada and the raininging symptoms desapeared quick. However, a couple of years later my doctor in Canada desided to change Effexor by Paxil eventhough I was completely without symptoms. Then I stayed also without symptoms for almost 13 years amd without sexual problems (I was all that time with Paxil 25 mg CR). In Colombia i was with muscle pain for almost 4 years.
Are these drugs you mention from the same Effexor family? Why my pains disapeared when I started Lyrica and then they come back again?

Yes, Desvenlafaxine and Duloxetine are from Effexor family. These are more effective for treating pain symptoms because they enhance the levels of norepinephrine in the synaptic terminals . I can't guess why your medication was changed from Effexor to Paxil when you were symptom free. It is strange that some of the residual symptoms disappeared when you shifted to Canada. May be you had lots of stressors while in Colombia ,which disappeared in Canada. Lyrica binds to the α2δ (alpha-2-delta) subunit of the voltage-dependent calcium channel in the central nervous system. Pregabalin decreases the release of neurotransmitters including glutamate, norepinephrine, substance P and calcitonin gene-related peptide.However, unlike anxiolytic compounds (e.g., benzodiazepines) which exert their therapeutic effects through binding to GABAA, pregabalin neither binds directly to these receptors nor augments GABA . so it's effect on pain sensations. but the effect could wane so dose may need to be raised to 450 mg ( 150 mg three times a day)
Secondly the issue of reducing dose of PaxilCR. It comes in 12.5,25 &37.5 mg Some of my patients were extremely sensitive to the withdrawal symptoms so it has taken me up to one year to stop a medicine. This can be achieved with mixing your full dose in a glass of juice and rejecting 5 ml but drinking the rest , increase 5 ml after each 7 days

Yeah, me neither, i dont know why my doctor changed from effexor to paxil. I only remember he mentioned that Paxil was less stronger than Effexor and easier to withdraw which i dont think is necesarily true.

Clonazepam ,over a period of time, develop tolerance just like alcohol. so whether you have developed tolerance is difficult to say ,but we advise to stop it because long term use can result in memory loss. Again Effexor or cymbal tab withdrawal is generally milder as compared to SSRI but it really depends from person to person. so difficult to say what will happen to you?
