Suggest Treatment For Severe Nausea, Headache And Chills While On Tamoxifen And Lyrica

default
Posted on Tue, 14 Jun 2016
Question: Am having a problem with my hands turning beet red and it's been going on for months. I thought it may have been the Tamoxifen but I've been off of that for almost 2 months. I did, however, start on Lyrica and wonder if that may be the cause. I saw a neurologist yesterday and have another issue - TMJ. Does that cause pressure and pounding in the head? Several things going on today - nausea, pounding, headache, chills, burning in the chest. I'm going to try to get in to see my PCP tomorrow.

Detailed Answer:
Hi xxxxxxxx, thanks for asking from HCM.

I can understand your concern. After reading your question thoroughly, the pressure, pounding, turning red of head could be

: Drug related - Lyrica or Pregabaline use can cause few side effects like headache, drowsiness/heaviness in head, red skin lesions, red eyes, nausea.

You can consult your doctor about reducing its dose or discontinuing it. Do not stop it on your own.

: Tamoxifen withdrawal - It is a common entity after discontinuing tamoxifen. It presents as headache, heaviness, facial flushing, hot sweats, breathing difficulty or chest pain. If you are having such symptoms, consult your doctor.

Treatment is oestrogen therapy,
antidepressants like Venalaflexine
exercise
waiting and observing
Consult doctor about these options.

TMJ (temporamandibular joint) usually cause focal pain, more while moving jaw, relief with jaw rest, so it is unlikely to be the cause.

Hope it will help you. If still doubt, let me know. Kindly consult doctor to rule out any cardiac illness as you are having burning chest pain.

Thanks. take care

Detailed Answer:
Hi xxxxxxxxxx thanks for asking from HCM.

Losartan is a relatively safe and effective antihypertensive drug. Long term intake of Losartan can cause

; Headache
; Stuffy nose
; Dizziness
; Infection of sinus/nose
; Nausea, vomiting

It can cause hypotension. But in your case, your BP is in normal range ( 100/60mm Hg to 140/90mm Hg). No need to worry about it.

Losartan can cause redness of skin and sometimes rashes also, but it very rare. You can consult it with your doctor and taper it if other causes are ruled out and it is the cause.

Hope it will help you. If still in doubt, kindly let me know.

Thanks. Take care.
