Question: Hi, I am 33 years old female,mother of 2 kids. I was having a lower back pain my dr asked me to take an MRI and x ray. I just now got my x ray report which states as below. My dr is out of station and wil be back only on tuesday. Could you please tell me if there is anything to worry? RADIOLOGY XRAY PELVIS BOTH HIP AP VIEW - There is a cystic lesion seen in the medial aspect of the head of left femur. - The left acetabulum is also expanded and shows multiloculated cystic lesion along its medial and superior portions. - The Iliopectineal line (cortex) is thickened. There is no obvious fracture. - There is evidence of osteitis condensans iliaca nvolving both illiac bones at the juxta articular portions of the SI joints. Both SI joint spaces are smooth & regular. - There is right hemisacralisation of the L5 vetebra. - The right hip joint, the right femur are normal. Pelvic soft tissues are normal. IMPRESSION * Cystic lesions involving the head of left femur & acetabulum -? cause. * Suggest CT / MRI scan for further evaluation.

Brief Answer: it can be a old changes of TB Detailed Answer: hello madam, I have read your case and there are two significant findings on x rays. 1. Your back pain can be due to osteitis condensans iliaca. This is calcification of iliac bone and it is not a dangerous thing. It is more common in female with multiple kids. It leads to back strain. It can be cured with back muscle strengthening exercises. 2. Other finding which you mentioned is cystic changes in left hip joint. Are you having any pain in hip recently? Or do you have any difficulty in sitting cross leg or on the floor? If answer is yes then these cystic changes can be cause of this. These type of changes are common in TB hip. Since you already had TB in past,chances of recurrence is there. It can be proved by MRI. Other causes of these type of cystic lesions are arthritis. But TB is more common. If there is no pain in your hip joint, and you can do all above mentioned movement of hip joint without any discomfort then these cystic changes can be old healed lesions also.
