Diabetes is a serious disorder that affects a large section of the population. Nearly 8% of the US population is estimated to be suffering from diabetes. The central problem in diabetes is with the way glucose, or blood sugar, is handled by the body. The body needs insulin to push blood glucose into the cells where it can be used for growth and energy. Patients with diabetes are either unable to produce enough insulin to drive this process or their cells are non-responsive to normal amount of insulin. The result is high blood glucose level which leads to the many symptoms and complications of diabetes
