User :   hi there
Doctor :   hi
Doctor :
how can i help you?
Doctor :
please proceed with your health query
User :   i had a d and c three months ago
User :   and i have not had a period since
User :   my hormone levels were checked with bloodwork
Doctor :
ok
User :   and they became normal at the end of last month
Doctor :
what were the reports?
User :   well the d and c was done because i had an abortion
User :   all my levels of hormones are normal except that the prolactin elevated to 65
User :   that was tested in mid oct
Doctor :
ok
User :   then i retested again and my prolactin returned to 15. which is normal
Doctor :
prolactin levels are quite high
User :   that was oct 29
User :   yea they were
Doctor :
ok
User :   now
User :   still no period and it is nov 17
Doctor :
after prolactin levels acme back to normal, did you have your periods?
User :   no
User :   i went for a tvs today
User :   everything looks fine, except my endometrium lining is a bit thin
User :   probably from the d and c
Doctor :
ok
User :   the dr stated that the lining is not abnormally thin, but it is thin
Doctor :
how is your FSH, LH and TSH levels?
Doctor :
were these also tested?
User :   how it would look thin after menstruation
User :   yes those were all tested and are normal
Doctor :
ok
Doctor :
were you started on some pills after the d and c?
User :   i have always had a regular period all my life and on time
User :   no i am wondering if i should wait a little while or start some pills
User :   does an endometrium lining build up on its own ?
Doctor :
yes it does build up on its own
User :   i am 29 years old
Doctor :
but sometimes it fails to do after d and c
Doctor :
so at that juncture you should discuss this with your doctor
Doctor :
and start hormonal pills to help you menstruate
User :   what pills can i take to build it up?
User :   it should be an estrogen/progesterone combo of pills?
Doctor :
it should be a combination pill
Doctor :
containing both estrogen and progesterone
Doctor :
such that the normal cycle is maintatined
User :   what is the best brand of birth control that would help build it?
Doctor :
and when stopping them, you get a withdrawl bleeding
Doctor :
The pills has to prescribed by the doctor after examining you
User :   will one cycle of birth control thicken it?
Doctor :
generally it might take 3 cycles to come back to normal
User :   do i need a high dose or low dose of the combined estrogen/progesterone?
Doctor :
you will need a pill that contains moderate dose of estrogen and high dose of progesterone
Doctor :
to help you
User :   do u recommend any specific brands?
Doctor :
Femilon and Novalon are trusted brands
Doctor :
but it also depends on the condition of the patient
User :   do u know what the US trade names are?
Doctor :
some pills come as triphasic pills
Doctor :
that contain different amounts
Doctor :
of estrogen and progesterone
Doctor :
since you have undergone a d and c and facing problems
Doctor :
this triphasic pills will work out well for you
User :   it was an abortion via d and c
User :   im trying to conceive again
Doctor :
as this will give you the almost a normal cycle
Doctor :
ok
User :   there were no problems with the d and c
Doctor :
then i will suggest you to
Doctor :
get a check done again with your doctor
Doctor :
get these pills prescribed
Doctor :
and also do a follicular study after the cycle get normalised
User :   so triphasic pills with combined estrogen/progesterone should work the best?
Doctor :
such tht you can know if you are ovulating well
Doctor :   yes they should work the best
User :   can u ovulate and not have a period?
Doctor :
no
User :   ok
Doctor :
generally ovulation wil induce a period if the ovum does not get fertilised
Doctor :   and if in the follicular scan it is found that you are not ovulating
Doctor :
then ovulation inducing drugs can be used to help you to cncieve
User :   but hopefully the birth control will help normalize everything
User :   if i have been regular all of my life, is there a good chance that i will be regular again?
Doctor :
yes
Doctor :
there is pretty good chance that you will be normal again
User :   so generally speaking, endometrium lining should build up on its own, because i have had no prior history of a thin lining and i am still young?
Doctor :
yes XXXXXXXX
Doctor :
but since it is not happening
Doctor :
you require hormone supplimentation to help it come back to normal
Doctor :
Is there any thing else I can help you with?
User :   and will the hormone supplements restore the lining for good?
Doctor :
yes it should help you to do it
Doctor :
also folow up with the scan for ovulation
User :   whats the scan called?
Doctor :
follicular scan
User :   great thanks dr. Good night
Doctor :
Please fill the feedback form say done when done
User :   sure
Doctor :   Thanks for consulting HealthcareMagic. Bye for now.
