Doctor :   hi
Doctor :
how can i help you?
User :   Is it Dr.Mazumdar
Doctor :
please proceed with your health query
Doctor :
No It is XXXXXXX here
User :   In Dec'09 I had cat with Dr.Mazumdar with regards to my wife missed aborsion could u refer my previous chat
Doctor :
sure i will refer
Doctor :
please give me few moments
Doctor :
was this regarding the malaria treatment that i should refer?
User :   YES
Doctor :
ok
Doctor :
yes XXXXXXXX you can proceed
User :   Now, it 3 months after the missed abortion. As per our Gynecologist we can now plan our next pregnancy, however the Gynecologist has advised to have a complete body checkup done & screening from a general physician. Pl advise us
Doctor :
ok
Doctor :
yes, what is advised to you is right
Doctor :
you should be going for a physical check-up
Doctor :
and then when everything is found to be normal
User :   What Tests should be done, Where to do it
Doctor :
then you can plan out for pregnancy
Doctor :
also your wife should be taking folic acid and other vitamin suppliments now before planning for pregnancy
Doctor :
teh tests to be done will be as follows
Doctor :
CBC (complete blood counts) including peripheral smear, LFT (liver function test) and kidney function tests
Doctor :
these will reveal the present health condition
Doctor :
also along with this you should be also doing a repeat scan to see if the uterus and endometrium is back to its normal state
User :   What is peripheral smear. CBC is normal. SGOTP & SGPT is also within range
Doctor :
ok
Doctor :
peripheral smear is a blood test in which the blood smear is examined under microscope
Doctor :
to look for the morphology of the blood cells
Doctor :
and also to see if there is any malaria parasites still there
Doctor :
which will not be
Doctor :
as the treatment was complete and she is symptom free.
Doctor :   have you followed what i have said?
User :   Where should we do this peripheral smear
Doctor :
in the same place where the other tests were done
Doctor :
it should have been done when doing the CBC
Doctor :
Is there any thing else I can help you with?
User :   We were advised for Antigen test instead of peripheral smear. Is Antigen different from peripheral smear
Doctor :   yes it is different
Doctor :
antigen test is to see if there is the antigen is still there
Doctor :
meaning to say that teh disease causing agent
User :   Will peripheral smear cover all the deasesase
Doctor :
it will only cover the blood related disorders, antigen test will cover the others also
Doctor :
which are apart from the blood disorders
User :   Ok we shall do the peripheral smear. What else is required to have complete body check. Folic tablets are already on.
Doctor :
ok
Doctor :
then that should be enough to do the peripheral smear and the antigen test that was previously advised.
User :   Ours is a Malaria area lots of mosquitoes, Any advise to prevent malaria
Doctor :   malaria prevention is done by preventing mosquitoes from entering house, by putting nets on windows and doors
Doctor :
and not opening them in early morning and in evenings
User :   This was already followed by us previously and we are following. Unfortunately it hit us on wrong times. Any medication we can have to prevent
User :   Is chemoprophylaxis against malaria recomemded
Doctor :
chemoprophylaxis can be taken
Doctor :
but when you are planning for the pregnancy
Doctor :   it is not advised
Doctor :
but you should be following the precautions including full sleeved clothes, using repellants, and mosquito nets
User :   what is repellants,
Doctor :
and try to reduce the breeding grounds for mosqitoes in and around the house
Doctor :
repellants are something like ointments and also in form of coils, and liquid vaporiser kinds
Doctor :
breeding grounds for mosqitoes in and around the house serve as the main reason why the problem does not go
Doctor :
so make sure that there are no standing water places which are not properly covered.
Doctor :
these include overhead water tanks, pots and potholes, broken vessels, tyres etc
User :   Where R repellants found
Doctor :
you get them in any medical store
Doctor :
you should ask the pharmacist for them
Doctor :
ask for ODOMOS, GOODNIGHT, MORTEIN etec
Doctor :
these come in vaporiser as well as coil form
Doctor :
odomos and goodnight come as ointments too
User :   Last time the full Malaria medication course was not complete, It's been 3 mts now we did the blood test 4 times, Malaria is not dedected in blood. Fever is also not there. Hope Malaria does not returns
Doctor :   ask for the fogging with mosquito repellant in your area which is done by the corporation and municipality
Doctor :
if the treatment is not complete
Doctor :
then there are chances that the parasite be hiding in liver in dormant form, and become active if immunity comes down
Doctor :   take a consult for a repeat treatment or treatment to eradicate the hidden parasites
User :   Can u advice us of any medication for eradicate the hidden parasites
Doctor :
if the infection was due to Plasmodium vivax , then there are chnces for dormant form to exist
Doctor :
if it was any other form
Doctor :
then with treatment they will go
User :   It was Plasmodium
Doctor :
in your case it was P.falciparum
User :   YES
Doctor :
so it should have been eradicated
Doctor :
so just go ahead with the antigen testing and peripheral smear test
Doctor :
and if found fine, go ahead with planning the pregnancy
Doctor :
take precaution to prevent mosqito bites
User :   Hope the Blood Test in form of Peripheral Smear would cover the entire Body check that the gynecologic referred to
Doctor :
it will only cover the blood related problem
Doctor :
the complete body check up will involve
User :   Can you suggests other tests to cover the body also
Doctor :
other tests like CBC, LFT, RFT, Lipid profile, chest x-ray, abdomen and pelvic scan
Doctor :
which wil cover almost the entire check-up
User :   What are LFT, RFT, Lipid profile
Doctor :
apart from specific problems related to the upper and lower limbs
Doctor :
LFT (liver funtion test) RFT (renal function test) Lipid profile to see cholestrol and other lipids in body
User :   Does LFT means SGOTP SGPT
Doctor :
these are only a part of the LFT there are other tests too
Doctor :
these two tests only reveal if there is any inflammation or damage going on to the liver
Doctor :   have you followed what i have said?
User :   What is RFT, Lipid profile
Doctor :   RFT (renal function test) Lipid profile to see cholestrol and other lipids in body
User :   Will throyed & suger cover these tests
Doctor :   these tests are a part of COMPLETE HEALTH CHECK-UP
Doctor :   no those are specific tests done for people having symptoms or suspicion of having either sugar or thyroid related problem, there are not the normal tests
Doctor :
these are covered under
Doctor :
THYRIOD profile tests and in the the tests to detect sugar both fasting and post prandial (i.e, after food)
Doctor :
* THYROID
Doctor :
did you follow what i have said?
