Doctor :   hi
User :   Hello
Doctor :   how can I help you?
User :   I have a question about ovarian cyst
User :   im 24 yrs old will be 25 in november
User :   i went to the doctor today, she examined me, because my left side was hurting
User :   if there was a cyst she could felt it ?
User :   and i get my periods regular
Doctor :   ok, if the cyst is small it will not be felt
Doctor :   what investigations were done for you?
User :   she checked my ovaries by pressing it
User :   and she asked me questions
Doctor :   was ultrasound done? what did it show?
Doctor :   what symptoms are you having at present?
User :   no there was ultrasound done
User :   all im having is pain, its not that bad pain, im thinking that it could be im ovulating
User :   i had my first day of last period 12th may
Doctor :   ok
Doctor :   if your periods are regular, and you are only having pain
Doctor :   it should be folowed up with an ultrasound of pelvis
Doctor :   to see what structure is giving you the pain
Doctor :   once it is done you will have an idea of what is happening
Doctor :   if any cyst is found in the ovary which does not look normal
Doctor :   it should be followed up with hormonal analysis for you
Doctor :   to see if there are any hormonal changes
User :   what is hormonal analysis ?
User :   the thing is
User :   i got pregnant but i had my abortion
User :   i had my abortion in january i guess
User :   what is the difference between cyst and tumor ?
Doctor :   ok, did you get your regular periods folowing the abortion?
User :   yes i did, i never missed a single period after my abortion
Doctor :   hormonal analysis is study of hormonal levels in the body
Doctor :   ok, then there should be any relation of abortion and the cyst
User :   so there is possibility there would be something related to abortion?
Doctor :   no, i am sorry, i meant to say there should NOT be any relation of abortion and the cyst
User :   oh okay
Doctor :   what you need now is a ultrasound pelvis, with a possible hormonal study to see what is happening
Doctor :   and then decide what further should be done depending on the reports.
User :   okay, so what is the difference between cyst and a tumor?
Doctor :   a cyst is a fluid filled or solid structure that can be benighn or cancerous
Doctor :   a tumor is collection of abnormnal cels which again can be benign or cancerous
User :   well if im getting regular periods do you think im on a safe side? i am bit scared
Doctor :   if you are getting regular periods, chances of th ecyst being cancerous is nil
Doctor :   first go ahead with teh investigations suggested to see if at all there is a cyst present
Doctor :   and if yes what type is it, is it solid or fluid filled or septate etc
Doctor :   which would determine further what is possibly could be
Doctor :   and direct the treatment towards it
Doctor :   have you followed what I have said?
User :   yes
User :   in what age ovarian cancer is common ?
Doctor :   is there anything else i can help you with?
User :   because there is no family history of ovarian cancer in my family
Doctor :   ovarian cancer is common in age after 40 though it can start in women aged 25-30 if there is family history of it
Doctor :   i would suggest you to first relax.
Doctor :   there is no surety whether the symptoms that you have is due to ovarian cyst or something else, so first focus on determining whether you have a ovarian cyst.
Doctor :   by doing a pelvic ultrasound
Doctor :   if it does show any abnormality, go ahead with the hormonal analysis.
Doctor :   if that also comes back abnormal, then the values suggested along with the type of cyst shown in the ultrasound will determine your further line of treatment
Doctor :   discuss these with your treating doctor in your next visit
Doctor :   and ask for these further investigations
User :   whenever i ask her she says that i am too young for ovarian cancer, i shouldnt be worrying about it
Doctor :   that would help you and your treating doctor to find out the exact cause for your symptoms
User :   as i dont have any family history of ovarian cancer
Doctor :   yes, you doctor is right.
Doctor :   *your
User :   so if no one has ovarian cancer in my family, i dont have risk in this age right ?
Doctor :   ask her to do the ultrasound pelvis, it will show what it is
Doctor :   yes
User :   yes i guess i should do that as well
Doctor :   you HAVE to get that done to see what structure inside is responsible for your pain
Doctor :   and depending on the result proceed with further treatment
Doctor :   have you followed now what I have said?
User :   yeah, it might be ovulation, because im getting since today, and i checked its my days of ovulatio n
User :   yes thanks alot
Doctor :   is there anything else i can help you with?
