User :   I have an abscesses in the groin area if applying warm compression for awhile is it ok to drain myself?

User :   Just one day ago after working out, i notice an abscess in the groin area on the left side of my groin, I applied warm compression for about 30mins it has gotten smaller but there is some pain on my left side also

Doctor :   please provide your age, height , weight, details of past medical illness and treatment if any.
Doctor :   is it an abscess or a lymph node swelling? your description will help me to understand better.
Doctor :   is it soft, firm or hard in consistency?
User :   age 28,5'9, past medical illness
Doctor :   does it fluctuate when you touch? is it tender to touch?
User :   im thinking it is an abscess, it seems soft does not hurt when i touch it, but since yesterday morning i got this pain in the groin on the side im assumming this is an abscess

Doctor :   what is the approximate size?
User :   when sitting down i feel pain it is less then 1cm
Doctor :   is the skin over it shiny? is it fixed to skin or structures below?
User :   it almost looks like a rash
User :   looks shiny
Doctor :   ok. in that case you can continue to hot compresses, alternating with cold compresses.
Doctor :   take an antiinflammatory like Tab Tylenol 1-2 times a day for pain relief and to reduce inflammation
User :   okay so no need to drain or try to drain it should go away eventually

Doctor :   if this improves it is fine. if it gets more painful or gets bigger in size or youdevelop fever
Doctor :   then you will need to get it drained
Doctor :   by your doctor/healthcare provider

User :   yes would it cause pain on the same side of the abscess
