User :   Every morning for the last week, I have had a coughing fit so strong that I throw up. What comes up is yellow and burns a little. I am absolutely sure that I am not pregnant, and my stomach does not feel upset before it starts. It really seems to be triggered by coughing so hard.
Doctor :   hi
Doctor :   Dr. XXXXXXXX here. let me read what you have typed
User :   Thanks.
Doctor :   ok
Doctor :   Since when you are having this problem ?
User :   It started 10 days ago.
Doctor :   ok
Doctor :   Did you take any medication for this ?
User :   Not yet.
Doctor :   ok
Doctor :   is it a dry cough or a productive cough?
User :   It is productive, if by that you mean that mucus and phlegm come up. That is the problem: what comes up is so thick that it triggers my gag reflex, and then I vomit.
Doctor :   ok. what is the color of the mucus?
User :   It is clear most of the time, and sometimes yellow.
Doctor :   the gag reflex that you get is due to the excess pressure that builds up when you cough, and the yellow liquid that comes up and burns could be the gastric acid and contents.
User :   OK.
Doctor :   the yellow mucus suggests infection, and should be treated with antibiotics
Doctor :   the cough can be treated with the cough suppressants and regular gargling.
User :   I had a tooth pulled two months ago, and was taking Biaxin for infection. I was warned that there was a stomach problem that could result. Could this be related? And I assume that I need to see a doctor in person for a prescription?
Doctor :   i would recommend you to not ignore the symptoms, and get a physical examination done which should include a chest examination
User :   OK, thank you.
Doctor :   yes you would need to see a doctor in person for a prescription. the stomach problem could also be due to the gastritis which could have resulted from use of previous antibiotic
Doctor :   if you do take any antibiotic now, request your doctor to prescribe you an acid suppressant too.
User :   OK, thanks.
Doctor :   have you followed what I have said?
User :   Yes, everything makes sense. I mostly wanted to make sure that I can make an appointment to see my doctor, and not rush out to an emergency center.
Doctor :   is there anything else i can help you with?
User :   No, thank you.
Doctor :   if the vomiting that is happening is making you weak and is bothering you very much, you do need to rush to ER
Doctor :   else you can wait for getting seen by your doctor
User :   It only happens in the morning, right when I wake up. I am able to keep food down about 20 minutes afterward. Thanks.
Doctor :   ok. then a cough suppressant and acid suppressants would work for you. get a prescription from your doctor for the same along with antibiotics to treat your throat infection
