Why am i experiencing windy noise heart beat in my right ear inspite of having an abnormal amount of air in my ear bone? - Online Doctor Chats
Hello, I am experiencing the following symptoms: windy noise in my right ear, sometimes feels like my own heartbeat, when I move, bent down it worsens or becomes louder. I also have post nasal drip, and pressure in that ear, can be painful sometimes. Went to the ER they did a CT scan and it revealed an abnormal amount of air in my ear bone. The Dr didnt know what this meant though. I am very very anxious and stressed, I have had this for a week now. Please... help me. XXXXXXX
Please let me read your post
the most disturbing symptom is the windy/heartbeat sound
There are two possibilities for such an finding in the scan
so infections also come with no fever?
Most of times only chronic infections can present with such finding in the scan
Chronic infections usually don't present with fever or pain
A course of antibiotics would be necessary to reduce the intensity of infection which may also help to reduce the air in the middle ear
Are you there ?
Is there anything I could help you with ?
just a few more questions
is it possible that the dr was not able to realize that it was an infection?
are infections easy to miss?
Yes, since chronic infection do not present with any obvious symptoms or even signs
what should I do then?
it is possible to miss them
even with the results of the scan?
He shall plan to lave you on antibiotics and observe
I have an appointment until march 5 with the ENT, the ER dr referred me
but i am scared whatever this is will become worse
I believe that would be late
do you think this is something I should press on to get myself looked at before?
I mean, the infection may not cause any serious complications by then
but earlier the better in any case of infection
I told them it was very concerning for me, but they dont have anything before that
I am freaking out...
do you mean that it would be late because....?
is it possible to find ENT's to chat with on this site?
No, but you can post a question to the same online here
what if I leave this intreated and then the windy sound/heartbeat on my ear never goes away?
It may progress but slowly
im very scared dr
for sure, if left untreated the problems may persist for long.
I am just at loss, since they havent given me a diagnosis
Do not worry, I am only concerned as your doctor did not consider the possibility of infection
I agree, get examined by another ENT specialist for better management
I am considering going to a clinic right now and see what they say...
have you seen any other cases like this one?
Yes, for sure
This is not XXXXXXX need not worry. But for sure needs a course of antibiotics
what kind of antibiotics?
Antibactterial, specially against gram negative organisms
why do you think the infection did not show up on the scan?
It doesnt as it is a chronic one
the air in the middle ear and the pulsating feeling are indirect signs
do these types of infections also go away on their own?
Yes, in most
but safer it to be put on antibiotics
I am also experiencing a lot of anxiety
because of the fear
as i say, need not worry
having this sound in my ear forever
I repeat it is not XXXXXXX or serious
ok... thank you..
Do take a second opinion
so many people experience this sound/heartbeat in their ear when they have an infection then..
also, when I move, like bending down, laying down, moving my head the sound worsens, why do you think that is?
The fluid or pus in the middle ear will move when head is moved and causes changes in the intensity of the problem
but the scan did not reveal fluid tho...
Usually clear secretions (fluid)get accumulated in chronic infections
just an abnormal amount of air in the ear bone
May not be in significant amounts so as to be picked by the scan
oh i see
I have post nasal drip
and last night i took Avamys
and it made
the post nasal drip to improve a bit
and the sound was not as bad
why do think that is??
why is it that when the post nasal drip is sort of gone the sound diminishes?
how can I get rid of the post nasal drip?
Which could be the reason for the slight improvement
You may have to be examined to find out the cause for the same
well thanks doc.
You are welcome
Wish you good health
