Doctor:How can I help you?
User:my sisters laproscopy has been done few days back
User:she has a bicornuate uterus
User:her periods are regular but exact time par she dont recieve her periods
User:now doctor has advised her IUI
User:i want to knw wt is IUI all about and what is the procedure...and will it help her getting her periods on time and will she be able to concieve?
Doctor:IUI refers to intrauterine insemination.
Doctor:It is a means of assisted fertilization
Doctor:which helps couples who are not able to conceive naturally.
User:is it also because she has bicornuate uterus?
Doctor:In this process, sperms are collected from the partner or donor is artificially injected into the uterus/fallopian tube of the woman.
User:it sounds similar to IVF
Doctor:Yes, in a way.
User:and diffrence?
Doctor:Invitro Fertilization is a process where both the mothers egg and fathers sperms are collected,
Doctor:fertilized artificially.
Doctor:Here fertilization occurs externally.
Doctor:The embryo which develops is selected and transferred to the mother's womb.
User:ok...but with the help of IUI will she be able to get her periods on time...i mean will iui help her any way?
Doctor:But in IUI, it's the sperms that are transferred and fertilization occur inside the mother's womb.
Doctor:IUI is a process to help her conceive.
Doctor:If IUI success and she conceives
Doctor:periods would not occur for a few months
Doctor:just like any pregnancy.
User:oh ok...
Doctor:Hope it is clear to you.
Doctor:Is there any other query?
User:but our concern is why she dont get her periods on exact date....what tests should we conduct to knw wht exactly is the problem
User:or what can be the reason behind it?
Doctor:If here previous cycles are very regular, then the current delay can be attributed to hormonal disturbances.
Doctor:Menstrual cycles are regulated by cyclical hormonal changes and many factors including stress and recent surgical procedures/infection
User:but its happening to her since last october
Doctor:may cause disturbances to this cycle.
Doctor:If there has been frequent menstrual disturbances
Doctor:various other conditions could be the cause.
Doctor:It is extremely difficult for me to predict a close possibility.
Doctor:The cause could be related to her anatomical/structural problem,
Doctor:endocrine disorders,
Doctor:ovarian cysts,
Doctor:and so on.
Doctor:Her gynecologist who has evaluated her before performing laproscopy
Doctor:may be able to tell us the exact reason for irregular periods.
Doctor:We can be able to plan a treatment if the cause is known.
Doctor:Unknown cause where period disturbances are found can be treated with hormonal drugs like birth control pills.
Doctor:We can be only be able to address one problem at a point,
Doctor:either her difficulty to conceive or
Doctor:correcting her irregular periods.
User:ok ...
Doctor:I guess it is conceiving which is important at this point and hence IUI.
User:ya since she is in her 5th year of her marriage
Doctor:If irregular period is disturbing her, she can plan its treatment along with her gynecologist after successful pregnancy.
Doctor:So do not worry.
Doctor:Proceed with IUI as advised
User:ok :)
Doctor:and wish for good luck.
Doctor:Hope you have followed me.
Doctor:Is there any other query?
User:ya...thankyou so much doctor :)
User:god bless :)
Doctor:Thanks for consulting me.
Doctor:Wish you the same.
Doctor:Bye for now.
User:pleasure is mine :)
