User:I am contacting you on behalf on my wife
User:She is 26 yrs old
User:she has tonsils pain on both sides
Doctor:Ok
User:So need your advice.
Doctor:How long has it been going on?
User:she used to get this pain often
User:now since 4 days
Doctor:Any fever?
User:no
Doctor:Ok. Well for the pain, what i normally recommend is that you crush a 325mg tablet of plain Aspirin and mix it with hot water and gargle
Doctor:That will help control the pain
Doctor:Gargling salt water will help as well
User:but what is the permenent solution for this?
Doctor:After that she needs to take a course of Antibiotics. In my practice I normally give Levaquin 500mg twice a day for 10 days in tonsil infections
Doctor:Finally, once the infection is dealt with
Doctor:she will need to go to and ENT surgeon and have her tonsils removed surgically
Doctor:That will prevent further infections

User:If we plan to remove it, is admission required?
Doctor:Normally it is a day surgery, you go in the morning and are home by afternoon
Doctor:but you need a few days rest after that
Doctor:The throat hurts worse in adukts after a tonsilectomy than in children
Doctor:so she will need painkillers and rest
Doctor:plus soft, easily digestible foods that don't irritate the throat
User:any precuations after removing it by surgery?
Doctor:She should have a soft diet and should not smoke.. those are the two important precaustions
