What causes recurrent fever followed by cold, cough and headache? - Online Doctor Chats
I am Dr
Hi, I am XXXX here
How are you?
How are you doing?
I am okay. Thanks!
How can I help?
I frequently fall sick.. May be like once in 2 months or so.. this has been the case from past 6 months
I feel it's because of my immunity problems..
What other symptoms do you have?
No other symptoms.
How high is the fever?
It won't be high.. I feel feverish when it starts.. gradually temperature increases but it won't be high.. and will be there for 3 to 4 days and will go off.. I generally take paracetamol and anitbiotic..
It seems like a recurrent viral
You are correct in guessing that it may be due to low immunity
You may get some tests done to check for immunity
The tests can include cbc, immunoglobulin levels etc
Antibiotics are usually not indicated unless it is documented to be bacterial
so I shouldn't be taking them often..
Antibiotics play a role in reducing immunity by altering normal flora
Please avoid taking antibiotics unless your immunity is not able top take care of the infection and it is bacterial in nature
Okay.. how do I know that? Whether it is bacterial or viral..
Characteristics of sputum can be assessed by a doctor
Currently I have fever and it is not high.. I have just taken paracetamol in the afternoon
It is okay to take paracetamol
Most viral infections get better on their own in 5 - 10 days
You may take your own precautions like
Shall I give it time and just take paracetamol when fever increases
If fever is less than 100 you may just wait and watch
if more than 100, then you can take paracetamol
I am sure it is less than 100
most of the times just feverish and how abt cold?
If you are not very uncomfortable because of it, then you may not take paracetamol
For cold and runny nose
It is an antiallergic that reduces the secretions in cold and cough as well
okay.. won't it make mucus thick?
Yes mucus will thicken and then clear in a few days
that is the normal course
Do yo get allergies or asthma?
Just have cold and running nose
Wheezing may be due to infection of the respiratory tract
if no fever than it is allergy
ok I will take Cetrizine.. How many days should I take?
Take it whenever you have symptoms
Its not taken in a course like antivbiotics
Do you recommend those tests which you mentioned mentioned earlier, to check immunity level?
Those will give a better clue to the diagnosis
Also take precautions to increase your immunity
like fruits and vegetables upto 5 times a day
exercise upto 20 min a day
drinking pure water and taking hygienic food
these precautions help in leading a healthy life
I play badminton everyday..
but should increased consumption of fruits and vegetables
Can you name vegetables will help increase immunity?
as well as fruits?
Salad like raddish, green vegetables help
all fruits are good
go for the seasonal fruits
any diet I should follow?
You may follow your routine diet
But take it hygienic to avoid tummy aches and infections
In diet you can take 3 proper meals and 3 small snacks a day
Do you have any question here?
Thank you doctor for your time! I will get in touch if I need any help. Also, would it be possible to contact you gain
again.. because I do not want to explain my problems to some one else again
