User:Hello doctor. I have recently known that I have high triglycerides, just over 240
Doctor:I see
Doctor:Did you have a lipid profile done?
User:I would like to understand how I can control this. Also can I take seacod oil tablets, do they help?
User:Yes
Doctor:Ok, the Sea Cod, is just fine to take. I was wondering if you could give me the full results of the Lipid Profile.
User:Can you please name the parameter that you need. I have the report before me now
User:HDL is 39
User:LDL 70
User:TG 238 to be precise
Doctor:I see
Doctor:So the HDL and LDL are ok, was there a total cholesterol given?
User:157
Doctor:ok Good
User:Ast sgot is 74, shows outside range not sure what that means
Doctor:Well, that could be due to alot of things, from dehydration, to stress, to taking medications
User:Oh ok
Doctor:its not that high. I wouldn't be worried about that
Doctor:Now as to the Triglycerides
User:Ok
Doctor:This normally happens when you eat very dense fats.. like Ghee or Vanaspati
User:I eat ghee but not excessive. But both my mom and dad have high cholesterol and TG
Doctor:There is a genetic component certainly
Doctor:You have to be careful about that, but overall. I'd like to encourage a more careful diet then talking about taking medications
User:I generally do not sweets. So other than ghee or vanaspati, are there items I should avoid
User:I am a vegetarian btw
Doctor:Thats fine, that should keep your LDL low and your HDL high
User:Ok. How about exercising? Does it have an impact on TG also?
Doctor:TG's are generated due to the fact that really dense fats are difficult to break down, so the body stores them as TGs
Doctor:Certainly TG's will come down if you do Cardio exercises on a regular basis
User:Ok I can certainly start some of that also.
User:Is this level considered risky? And is it any matter of concern at this point?
Doctor:Its not serious. Its a warning
User:I didn't think I would have any cholesterol related issue based on my diet until I saw this number
Doctor:how young are you again?
User:30
Doctor:OK, if I were you and I had these results. I would try and cut back on the ghee
Doctor:Thats about it
User:Perfect that helps doctor. One last question, one of the doctors who reviewed the report after master checkup suggested tonact TG for life. What are your thoughts on that?
Doctor:Ehhh
Doctor:See, lots of doctors love to throw meds at these numbers
User:To be honest, I wasn't convinced about a life term medication..
Doctor:but i like trying to modify lifestyle issues first before we do the meds
Doctor:The med would do the trick no doubt.
Doctor:But how bout you stay off the ghee for 6 months and then redo the Lipid Profile
Doctor:if it's still high we can revisit the idea Tonact
User:Understand. That's what I would prefer. But the medication recommendation had me worried thinking this is very serious
User:Sure I can do that
Doctor:Well, the basic idea we all have in these situations is to prevent the TG's from building up in the blood stream and causing circulatory issues
User:So would you recommend me against using the medication now based on the current report?
Doctor:I would suggest that you stay away from the med, FOR NOW
Doctor:really work at your diet, be careful, stay away from fats that stay solid at room temperature
User:Makes sense. I will try the exercises and no ghee diet for 6 months and then re do this
Doctor:Be careful with foods made at restaurants.
Doctor:They use cheap oils that will increase TGs
User:Good point. I do tend to eat out often
User:3-5 times a week maybe
Doctor:Yup, your not alone here
Doctor:try and fix these issues and you can stay off the meds
User:Sounds good doctor. I will follow your advice and re visit in 6 months.
Doctor:Ok.
Doctor:Anything else I can help you with?
User:you've been very helpful. Thank you so much
Doctor:Take Care
User:Nope, this is all I had for now. Thanks so much again
Doctor:Always Happy to help
Doctor:Thanks for visiting me here. Bye for now.
