User:hi...I had a NovaSure Endometrial Ablation done 16 months ago, and 3 months ago I started to notice a bad odor and discharge. I went to the doctor and he acted like they items were not related...then I read online and noticed others had the same issues... my doctor gave me Metronidazole which worked for a month, but now it's back again. I am freaking out...I have never had vagina odor. I'm 42 and 128 lbs. Please help
Doctor:Dr. XXXXXXX here
Doctor:Can you describe the discharge that you have?
User:it was was thick and yellowish...horrible smell... Then after sex last month, I had a lot of bledding...
Doctor:Currently do you notice the same discharge with the bad odour?
User:I have had like dried blood come out at times ...but I have also had to use a douch lately ...and the blood comes out then as well...
User:Not much is more the odor...
User:I just want to get rid of it...I'm scared I am always going to have a smell...
Doctor:Let me brief you.
Doctor:It pretty much looks like you have some form of infection happening.
Doctor:Without a clinical examination, it would be difficult to figure out if you have other associated polyps or mass coming out there.
Doctor:Infections are expected to occur after endometrial ablation; however it is very, very uncommon to have them 3 months after procedure.
User:I think it has everything to do with my Ablation...I have been tested for everything. STDs... BVs or whatever.... infections...all tests are negative.
Doctor:You need to see a gynecologist now. A per vaginal and per speculum examination need to be done.
Doctor:When did you get these test done.
User:I have read a ton of things online with girls just like me... This started 13 months after the ablation...and seems to be the norm with everyone else.
User:My tests have been done over the past 2 months.
Doctor:Did you undergo a per vaginal examination / per speculum test too?
User:I was with the gyno on Monday. She said I am fine. Then I noticed the smell on Tuesday. it's crazy
User:They did a that what you are talking about?
Doctor:Pap smear is a different form of test.
User:My theory is that ... this ablation has caused me not to have periods....but somehow blood does release a bit...and it stays inside of me...then it dries up and smells.... is that crazy?
User:so I need to ask for a per vaginal examination and a per speculum test?
User:I am in DC you know of a great gyno in the area?
Doctor:Your theory is possible, however dried up blood starts to smell bad when it gets infected.
Doctor:The tests for infections should have picked it up.
Doctor:I don't mean to say, endometrial ablation wasn't related at all.
Doctor:I only means you need to be investigated thoroughly before concluding the cause.
User:It is so weird has this same thing happened to so many people?
Doctor:I am glad to know that serious infections were ruled out.
User:do you know how to get read of smells
Doctor:If you are looking for symptom control then you need to be started on antibiotics.
User:I am changing my gyno pronto. this is nuts and I am freaking out.
Doctor:If metronidazole helped you earlier, it would be wise to start the same again but after your gynecologist repeats common infection tests.
Doctor:I understand what's going through.
User:How often can I us the Metronidazole
Doctor:Visit a second gynecologist. Let her examine you independently. She should also conduct perspeculum examination and if needed a hysteroscopy
Doctor:to get to the root of this problem.
Doctor:metronidazole can be taken twice a day. I prescribe 200mg tablets to my patients
User:I am ... I am looking into a new one now... How often can you get on the Metronidazole? She gave me an ointment...I would much rather a pill... why did she give me the ointment?
User:Can I take the metronidazole every day?
Doctor:It is usually given for period of 10 to 14 days.
User:ok thank you for your help!
Doctor:That being said, I usually start oral antibiotic after taking a sample for culture tests.
Doctor:I hope you get this problem solved soon.
Doctor:Thanks for consulting.
Doctor:Bye for now.
User:me too!! thank you!
