User:hi,
my sister has running nose, though initially we thought its allergic common cold it did not stop even after 20 days. its watery liquid which leaks once a while with few contiguous flow of droplets. i later found about CSF decease with similar symptoms. we had a test done and found glucose in those droplets. what are the best ways to cure this? and can we treat this without surgery? Are there any stages of this? and why did it happen to my sister ? the reasons why this happens?
Doctor:Hi

Doctor:Hi
Doctor:Welcome back...
Doctor:Are you there?
User:yes
User:I am going to provide u exact details
User:just a few seconds
Doctor:Sure...
User:It looked like CSF from symptoms I read on internet. So we did a test to see if there is glucose in the fluid of her nose
User:We had the test done and it said DRAIN FLUID - Glouse Result 60.0 mg/dl
User:[4:22:25 PM] Rahamath Syed: Not under scope of NABL
User:She has this problem from over 20 days.
Doctor:I would like to know who performed the test?
User:and though we thought it to be common cold allergic and had tablets for it ..the problems did not go
Doctor:What fluid was drained and how was it drained?
Doctor:Is she hospitalized?
User:No not yet..the test was performed at manipal hospital in bangalore
User:tablets given is ZOCEF 250 - daily twice - for 5 days
User:she is currently have those tablets
User:So we are not sure why these things happened to her?
User:and what are the possible options with us?
Doctor:I am sorry, but I would like to know what fluid was drained. yes presence of glucose on the nasal fluid suggest possible CSF leak
Doctor:but I would like to know if it was her nasal discharge that was tested.
User:yes
Doctor:Ok
Doctor:Did she have any injury before the discharge was noted?
User:Please let me know if you have any other questions in knowing this case
User:no
User:she did not have any injury
Doctor:Was a scan performed?
User:symptoms are , watery discharge on one side of nose some time headache and feverish
User:scan is not yet performed
Doctor:Ok
Doctor:Let me brief you.
Doctor:CSF leak needs to be corrected by surgical means.
Doctor:However before we take her to operating table
Doctor:we need to confirm if she really has a CSF leak.
Doctor:The glucose test suggest possible CSF leak.
Doctor:However she needs other test including CT/MRI scan performed.
User:so what are the things done in scan...I heard one doctor say they will give some injection in spinal cord and then do scan and she needs to be hospitalised..is it really required cant we have like normal x-ray kind of scan?
Doctor:The test can be done under care of a neurosurgeon.
Doctor:what your doctor described is a contrast scan
Doctor:it is much better in detecting CSF leak than normal scan.
Doctor:Definitely X-ray are not going to be helpful.
Doctor:In my opinion, you should proceed with the suggested scan (I think the doctor would opt for MRI and not CT)
User:can you brief me abt difference of scans and how they are performed and also the cost involved
Doctor:once it is confirmed that there is leak, she can be taken for surgery
Doctor:Normally an MRI is performed using a specific MRI machine. You might have seen or heard about it.
Doctor:In your sister's case, a XXXXXXX which is known as contract will be injected into the intrathecal space (injection into the spine)
Doctor:this contrast will go up into the CSF surrounding the brain.
Doctor:If there is a leak
Doctor:this material would also come out through the leak site
Doctor:A scan will be done after a few minutes.
User:by CT u mean contrast scan? or something else?
Doctor:I am sorry, there are specific medical terms which I am unable to explain via chat.
Doctor:Can we discuss about this issue by phone call.
User:yes sure my number is 0000
Doctor:If it is ok, I would ask the customer support team to arrange a call between us.
Doctor:Thanks for confirming.
User:sure
Doctor:I shall close the chat now
User:ok then I will close this chat
