User :   hi I had a subtotal thyroidectomy on Aug 6, 2010 due to a toxic nodule.The right lobe and part of the left was removed. I had symptoms of hyperthyroidism before the surgery.The doctor gave me Euthyrox 50 and instructed me to start using it 10 days after the surgery.I want to know when will I be feeling any better because some days I feel fine and other days like today I feel sluggish , no energy , somewhat nausea and just generally bad?

User :   im 31 male
Doctor :   Do you have any other problems like raised sugar, BP or cholesterol?
User :   no
User :   went for a checkup last week and all was good
Doctor :   Ok
Doctor :   Are you having any fever or sore throat?
User :   no
Doctor :   Since you had this surgery not even a month back, it may take about 6 to 8 weeks for you to recover completely
Doctor :   Also since you went for a check up and everything was fine, no need to woory
Doctor :   Any surgery takes about 8 to 10 weeks for the patient to recover completely from effects like fatigue. nausea.
User :   isnt this symptoms of hypothyroidism since most of the thyroid was removed?
Doctor :   If there are any symptoms like fever, swelling, redness, discharge then it needs a concern
User :   none of those symptoms present, i just dont feel like myself
Doctor :   Since you are taking the medications no need to be worried for that
Doctor :   Are you depressed because of the surgery?
User :   no not really, i was happy its over because i was feeling terrible with the hyperthyroidism symptoms
Doctor :   So no need to be worried now. It will be fine in few days.
Doctor :   Were your calcium levels checked after the surgery?
User :   no
User :   the doctor said i must see him after 6 weeks with blood tests
Doctor :   Then probably get your Calcium levels checked once
Doctor :   Ok then thats fine
Doctor :   Continue taking the Thyroid medications.
User :   must i do it now or wait for the 6 week checkup?
Doctor :   You can wait for the 6 weeks.
