User :   My daughter with Spina Bifida threw up last night with a low fever, went to ER and CT was negative. Went home. She stopped throwing up, but continued to feel bad, she had a clump of stool blocking her anus, when it came out blood came behind it. She has passed some stool since with no blood, but hurts her when she does pass stool, gas, or even moves in certain ways. Also, while at ER last night her stool was light brown with a lot of black spots.
Doctor :   hi.
Doctor :   Dr. XXXXXXXX here. Let me read what you have typed.
User :   Hello
Doctor :   what precipitated the vomiting?
Doctor :   what came out in the vomitus?
User :   The cause is unknown.
Doctor :   the black spots and the bleeding that she had could be due to bleed in the gastrointestinal tract
User :   It was brownish clear
Doctor :   which should be investigated further
Doctor :   the brown color of vomitus also suggests presence of altered blood in it.
Doctor :   does she have nausea, upper stomach discomfort?
Doctor :   did she have burning sensation in chest and nausea before she vomited?
User :   She is not able to comunicate that well, but is having stomach discomfort. The pain in chest is unknown. She just woke up out of sleep throwing up.
Doctor :   i recommend a stool test for her to confirm the presence of blood in it, and further consultation with a gastroenterologist to find out where in the gastrointestinal tract the bleeding is happening, and once confirmed, to seal the bleeding.
Doctor :   the uncomfortable feeling could be due to continued pain and blood loss.
Doctor :   please provide her age, height, weight, details of past medical illness if any.
Doctor :   are you there?
User :   She has not passed anymore blood, or thrown up within the last 18 hours. SHe is 2 years old, 19lbs, very short due to Spina Bifida. Has bow and urinary problems due to Spina Bifida also
Doctor :   her being asymptomatic for last 18 hours suggests improvement, but I would still recommend that a thorough check should be done to evaluate the cause of the bleeding
Doctor :   and to see if the bleeding inside is still continuing
Doctor :   if the silent bleed is still continuing, she will become very weak due to the blood loss.
Doctor :   keep checking the stool color
User :   Ok.
Doctor :   if it stil remains dark brown or has the specs of blood after 24 hours from the last episode
Doctor :   do not hesitate to ask for a gastroenterologist referal
Doctor :   and a stool test
Doctor :   have you followed what I have said?
User :   Yes
Doctor :   is there anything else I can help you with?
User :   No, thank you for your help
