User :   I've been hospitalized 3 times in 6 months with 104+ fever for 3-4 days solid. Advil and Tylenol will not even bring it down. Usually takes a cold bath or ice packs to help get it to 102 at best. NO RESULTS in blood tests or blood cultures. Tested negative for malaria. Sore throat starts 12-24 hours before fever comes on. Please Help!!!

User :   no sinus problems at all... ONLY SYMPTOMS were fever and sore throat

Doctor :   have u ever taken antibiotics for these infections ?
User :   fever usually makes me want to lay in bed, but these make me pace the floor.

Doctor :   any loss of appetite, and weight loss since 6 months ?
User :   trying to remember.... oh yes levaquin??
User :   nope .... weight has been good..
User :   only loss of appetite when fever is 104

Doctor :   since your blood work has been negative, i dont think you should worry
Doctor :   but, you should take precautions as u travel a lot
User :   really??? what about a parasitic infection?
Doctor :   exposure to infected individuals, can make u sick
Doctor :   probably u had bouts of pharyngitis, and if was not treated, itsbeen recurring again and again
Doctor :   do u have diarrhea, etc ?
User :   yes, but 3 times same amount of time in between? that seems to be an awfully low odds of random sickness.
Doctor :   any swollen glands any where ?
User :   swollen glands in front of ears... no diarrhea
User :   what is pharyngitis.
Doctor :   as i said, you have had pharyngitis , ( infection of throat)
Doctor :   and you need antibiotics (course for 7 days)
Doctor :   and also, warm saline gargling, throat lozenges, etc, which will help you
User :   they treated me with liquid antibiotics. and they also gave me a strong antibiotic which i took for 7 days last time.

Doctor :   have u had episodes of tonsillitis ?
User :   had them removed when I was 8 yrs
User :   what antibiotics would you prescribe?
Doctor :   i think , livoquin , would be sufficient as that its a good antibiotic
User :   ok, but I wonder why the reccurrence
Doctor :   sometimes, people who travel for work have increased chances of infection
Doctor :   either the airconditioning , or the humidity at a specific place, can cause perfect enviornment for infection
User :   can this illness cause that high of a fever for that long?

User :   ok.... you don't think testing for more specific parasites would be helpful? you think it is bacterial, correct?
Doctor :   since u had the tonsillectomy ( the lymph glands, that are protective against infection of throat) , the chances increase specifically in predisposed individuals

Doctor :   keep extra dose of antibiotic, when u travel

Doctor :   and take them, when symptoms arise

Doctor :   its a precaution, when u go by car or when sitting in a plane
Doctor :   you can ask your doc, for prescription
