User :   4 year old daughter has tested positive for staph in her throat 4 times since June, they want to put her on augmentin this time. Shouldn't we be finding the root cause before putting her on another round of antibiotics, she is not running a fever, just complains of her throat hurting every now and then.

User :   yes she was on a amoxicillin and cephallexin and zithromax before
Doctor :   Ok well the fact does remains that the mode of treatment is antibiotics
Doctor :   and usually we do give augmentin after the second attack
User :   is staph in the throat common?
Doctor :   As that is the most effective drug
Doctor :   As a matter of fact yes it is quite common
User :   what could be causing it?
Doctor :   there are plenty of causes
Doctor :   but we should talk more about preventing it
Doctor :   by increasing the immunity of your child
Doctor :   also by following the guidelines i will tell you
User :   this is the only thing she has gotten in two yearsl. She hasn't even had a cold, just seems to be this one thing, that's why i don't understand it.
Doctor :   1) Careful hand washing is your best defense against germs. Scrub hands briskly for at least 15 to 30 seconds, then dry them with a disposable towel and use another towel to turn off the faucet. If your hands aren't visibly dirty, you can use a hand sanitizer containing at least 62 percent alcohol.
Doctor :   2) Keep cuts and abrasions clean and covered with sterile, dry bandages until they heal. The pus from infected sores often contains staph bacteria, and keeping wounds covered will help keep the bacteria from spreading.
User :   we always wash before meals and after leaving stores. If we can't wash, we use the sanitizer.
Doctor :   also make sure there is a good amount of vitamin C as that is a good vitamin to increase body immunity
User :   She drinks about 8 glasses of orange juice a day. It is her favorite drink.
Doctor :   thats nice
Doctor :   well augmentin is a very good drug and will get rid of her infection
User :   thanks
Doctor :   your welcome
Doctor :   take care
