User :   hi, i have a question about a lump on the side of my neck right were my earlobe meets my neck, and once i started to mess with it i noticed another bump below about 1 inch, so i am just curious to see what it is?

User :   21
Doctor :
When did yoiu notice the lump first?
Doctor :
Are you with me XXXXXXXX?
User :   im pretty sure i have had it for a while, i think it has been growing fairly slowly for a few months but a few days 3 or 4 days ago and started to pick at it, i just got really curious and then it got bigger probly double the size and then the same day i noticeed the one below
Doctor :
Ok
User :   the one below fells like a lymph node
User :   but swollen*
Doctor :
Ok
Doctor :
How is the lump, hard or firm or soft?
Doctor :
What is the size of it?
User :   fairly flat not squishy but not hard, as more time passes it gets softer and softer and smaller
Doctor :   Is it on two sides or only one? which side
User :   one side
User :   maybe the size of a very small pea?
User :   it is diffenently geting smaller though
User :   the lump below fells like a lymph node but around it it is swollen but again it is decreasing
User :   hello?
Doctor :   Yes

Doctor :
Do you have cough / cold / sorethroat
User :   no but the weather here has been changing a lot, i live in kansas city 70s one day and 30s the next
Doctor :
Did you have weight loss or decreased appetite?
User :   havent had a cold for probly almost 2 weeks atleast
User :   not decreased appetite but i have been eating a little less lately just because I am so busy
Doctor :   Ok not a problem
Doctor :
Do you have dandruff or skin problem?
User :   ive lossed a little weight
Doctor :
Ok
Doctor :
Are you sexually involved?
User :   yes i do, very bad dandruff, but ever since i went to the dermatologist for it and got a shampoo for it it has been fixed, as far as skin condition, i had plantar warts really bad but boosted my immune system for that and that got ride of it
User :   no
Doctor :
Ok
User :   no i have not been sexually involved with a partner for a while
Doctor :
DOes the lump pain normally or when touched?
User :   but yea i have lost maybe 3 lbs recently but its because i am not eating as much as i usually do
Doctor :   Can you pinch the skin over it?

User :   no pain, before i started messing with it a lot when i would just drag my finger across it would hurt a little bit, but more like a sore feeling
Doctor :   Can you pinch the skin over it?
User :   yea
Doctor :   Is the lump movable ?
Doctor :
Can you take a photo graph of it and send it to me to my email ID?
Doctor :
are you busy XXXXXXXX?
Doctor :
Are you replying to me?
User :   yea im here
User :   i am just trying to organize my thoughts
Doctor :
I hope you are not growing impatient answering my questions
User :   o no not at all
User :   i welcome them
Doctor :
As this is an online consultation I wish I could do the best possible to advice you on your health
User :   ok well the top lump i can move
User :   and same for the bottom one but only the swollen area i cant move
User :   well there is nothing see really
Doctor :
Yes XXXXXXXX I do not see anything worrisome
Doctor :
for you
Doctor :
The lump I opine is just a lymph node swelling or a subcutaneous lipoma
Doctor :
which are not worrisome
Doctor :
This is because you manipulate it they grown sore
Doctor :
and a matter of concern to you
User :   there is no color to it or anything, its just the bottom lump is a little swollen and right where the earlobe meets the neck there is just a little flat lump that sticks out in that area, its really hard to see in a picture probly
Doctor :   That's ok

User :   but after the chat i will send you one then if i can?
Doctor :
Good I appreciate that
User :   so is this anything i should be concerned about?
Doctor :
Not at all XXXXXXXX
User :   awesome, is there any chance of cancer or anything?
Doctor :   Absolutely not
User :   o thank you!
Doctor :
You do not be bothered about it
Doctor :   The lump shall take enough time to reduce
User :   awesome, just out of curiousity, why is there a lump below the top one?
Doctor :   There are something called cervical lymph nodes in the neck
Doctor :
There are thousands of them
User :   should i get it looked at still?
Doctor :
Thye are arranged in chains before the ear, below and back of ear
User :   wow, what do you think happened to make them swell up?
Doctor :
If one is swollen and when you manipulate on one the other swells up
Doctor :
If less than 3 to 4 lymph nodes it should not be worried about
User :   o okay i see, so do you think i should get it looked at?
Doctor :
Actually their consistency, texture the number, size of the lymph nodes on examination matters most
Doctor :
rather than one or two that simply swell
Doctor :
You can keep observing it but you should not panic
User :   is there really a lymph node where my earlobe meets my neck?
Doctor :
If you are still concerned even after my assurance you may see any doctor near by
Doctor :
and get examined, the doctor might ask you for biopsy
User :   o no, i will probly keep an eye on it
Doctor :   That is better.

User :   my mom is here and she is fairly confused by the fact that there are lymp nodes where my earlobe meets my neck? but it is true right, there are lymph nodes there?
Doctor :   Yes

User :   i believed, its just that my mom needs to be told again lol
Doctor :   Now I think I have convinced you
Doctor :
Is it not?
Doctor :
Should I for you mom?
Doctor :   *your
Doctor :
I can do that too.
User :   you have, i am very glad i spoke to you, no she is just relieved!
Doctor :
If she has some questions, I can
Doctor :
Is there anything else I can help you with?
User :   umm so you said give it three to four days from now to see if the swelling goes down right?
Doctor :
I would say next 10 days, because these are the reactive swellings and take some time to subside
Doctor :
Keep a watch about fever, weight loss?
User :   because its been 3 to 4 days already, but the size is getting smaller fast
Doctor :
Even that is a good sign
User :   weight loss, like how much is bad?
Doctor :   More than 7 lb in a month

Doctor :
unless you are obviously trying to lose weight.
Doctor :
Please give me a minute
User :   not really trying just not eating as much as i usually do, ive been between 160 and 155 off and on since i got the lump, do you think that is okay, only eating one meal a day?
User :   ok sure
Doctor :
At your age, I suggest you to eat small amounts ( quarter of what you usually eat ) four times a day
Doctor :
That becomes more balanced and helps in reaching your wt loss goal earlier
User :   yea i know, i am very bad about that
Doctor :
You can try doing that
Doctor :
and I do not think it is impossible
User :   but is going back and forth between 160 and 155 normal in just 3 or 4 days?
Doctor :
Just fine not an issue
User :   when you mentioned watch for weight loss and fever what would that be side effects for?
User :   just curious?
Doctor :
If you find these thing along with lymph node swelling then
User :   o and what is your info so i can send you a picture of the two lumps?
Doctor :
it says one should have a chronic condition
User :   whats that mean?
Doctor :
YYYY@YYYY
Doctor :
is my email ID
Doctor :
where you can send the mail to
Doctor :
A long term condition for more than 6 months is said to be chronic
Doctor :
which is not in your case
User :   i know i have had that lump for a while, but i dont think six months though
Doctor :
Yeah
Doctor :
So do not think about it deeply
User :   just out of curiousity, is it normal to be able to fell your lymph nodes?
Doctor :
Yes
User :   ok, just curious, cause i can fell a few on my neck and i know some other people that can as well
User :   o and when you said cronic condition, is that like cancer or what?
Doctor :
Do you smoke?
User :   nope
Doctor :
Do you take alcohol?
User :   i do have a few a week
User :   i bet that makes it worse doesnt it?
Doctor :   No

Doctor :
You just have to leave it alone

Doctor :
and do not be bothered about it
