User :   my daughter is 8 years old and she has burns in her foot few months back
the burn got healed but now she developed keloid as skin doctor told us
please advise how it can be treated
Doctor :   hi
Doctor :   Dr. XXXXXXXX here
User :   hi
User :   i am XXXXXXXX here
User :   can you see my query above
Doctor :   the treatment of keloid depends on type and extent of it
User :   the size is 2.8*1.7 cms
Doctor :   if it is superficial, then topical medications are useful
Doctor :   if it is deep, then chances of repeat scars are possible and laser therapy is preffered
User :   how to decide
User :   doctor told us silicon bandage
Doctor :   yes, it is flexible bandage and found to be effective
User :   i came to know that laser therapy is not sure shot treatment
Doctor :   and it is usually used for hyperthrophic keloidal scars
User :   also i came to know that once cured after some time it developes again
Doctor :   repeated injury can lead to recurrence
User :   is silicon best tretemnt for hyperthrophic keloids?
Doctor :   keloids are formed due to hyper reaction of skin in forming healing tissues
Doctor :   yes, it is considered as best for hyperthrophic ones.
User :   my questions are-1-what is best treament for this
Doctor :   you can take a second opinion from a cosmetic surgeon before deciding on it
User :   2- can it spresd wider than the injury area
User :   read spread
Doctor :   first and foremost, the outcome is unpredictable as the response can vary.
Doctor :   sometimes combination therapies are needed to make sure that they do not spread more than current status
User :   outcome of tretment is unpredictable-fine
User :   so means i should consult skin doctor plus cosmetic surgeon
Doctor :   the other therapies that can be helpful along with mainline treatment include: repeated cryotherapy, corticosteroid injections, kneading massage
Doctor :   you can consult either one of them
User :   but should both of them see jointly-discuss amongst themseleves and then decide jointly
User :   ok i have consulted skin doctor
User :   he says silicon bandage
Doctor :   that is fine
User :   my question still is can it spread more than injury area? is there any test to know this.
User :   my doctor did not refer any test
Doctor :   you can opt to take second opinion from our panel specialists before taking final decision
User :   how-what is the method for that?
Doctor :   WWW.WWWW.WW
Doctor :   visit this link to consult with cosmetic surgeons
User :   it will be online only?
Doctor :   and there is no test to know whether it will spread more
Doctor :   keloid itself forms due to injury
Doctor :   so any kid of further injury can lead to spread
Doctor :   they will be available to answer you over e-mail or phone
User :   but what is your experience-does it spread more than injury area
Doctor :   you will need to send in pictures of affected area
Doctor :   to forward to them to have a better idea of the problem
User :   how and when we can say that growth of keloid is over and it will nto spread further
Doctor :   you can send pictures at YYYY@YYYY after you place request for second opinion
User :   fine
User :   how about cold therapy
User :   or radiation therapy
Doctor :   if after the procedure withing 10-15 days there is no hypereaction of skin seen, then it is considered as the scar will not spread
User :   cab by seeing photo spead can be told?
Doctor :   cold therapy is same as cryotherapy
User :   yes
User :   is cold therapy best treatment?
Doctor :   as I have said earlier, the type of treatment needed would be decided based on extent of depth
Doctor :   so after a careful examination, your question can be answered
User :   after what procedurewithin 10-15 days-what. what is hypereaction?
Doctor :   hyperreaction is part of reaction of skin to treatment given
Doctor :   it is to be observed with all types of treatment
User :   the rise of surface is around 1.0-1.5 mm above normal skin level
Doctor :   the reaction time and response can vary with different types.
User :   fine
User :   but does it get cured finally
Doctor :   the inside or the internal depth is to be considered
User :   fine
