User :   Hi,
Doctor :   hello
User :   yes, my sister a 46 yr old woman was told she has colon cancer after a colonoscopy--adrenacarcinoma (?)---The tumor is large in size and roughly 15-16 cm's from the base of her retcum.
Doctor :   ok
User :   she is experiencing symptoms, however no weight loss. What can you tell me regarding treatment protocols....chem/rad then surg or the other way around?
Doctor :   sure i will guide you
User :   is there anyway to assume there is/isnt mets based on the fact that she has symptoms? In other words, shall we assume its an advanced cancer b/c she has symptoms
User :   Ive always heard colon cancer is a silent killer and when symptoms present, then its too late
Doctor :   so when has she been scheduled for surgery ?
User :   no scheduling yet, havent staged it yet; MRI tommorow.
Doctor :   well the treatment and prognosis is completely dependent on the STAGE of the disease
Doctor :   most important is to know if its spread or not
User :   I understand, my question is this: is it ok to assume it's spread or is 'advanced', due to the fact she is experiencing symptoms and has been experiencing symptoms for some time?
Doctor :   no that is not at all a criteria
Doctor :   dont worry
User :   ok. thanks very much.
Doctor :   some symptoms can as because of just the compression of the tumor to a organ without actually penetrating it
User :   if it has spread, does the course of action change (ie--surg not an option)?
Doctor :   so just having symptoms does not tell us if its ADVANCED
User :   my mother has a primary lung with mets to pancreas, thus surg not an ooption, I wonder if the same holds tru for a primary colorrectal cancer
Doctor :   yes the course of action depends
Doctor :   some require ONLY surgery
Doctor :   if its more then chemotherapy and radiotherapy is added
User :   thanks very much.
Doctor :   your most welcome
Doctor :   i wish your family to be stay strong and hope things are fine
Doctor :   take care
