User :   hi
Doctor :   Hi
User :   Hi yeah I had a general question. If you had a bout of "Subacute granulamatous thyroiditis" are you aware if it could have an effect on the gums, i.e. granuloma or bump on the gums?
Doctor :   No
User :   Any reason why not? I've read that other granulamatous disease can cause this effect?
Doctor :   wait plz
Doctor :   Subacute granulomatous thyroiditis - Patients often present with an acute virallike illness characterized by high spiking fever, malaise, myalgia, fatigue, and prostration. Neck pain from the thyroiditis can be extremely painful, preventing swallowing of saliva, liquids, and food. The pain starts in the lower neck and can radiate to the jaw or ear on that side. Thyroid hormone levels are often extremely elevated, resulting in marked signs and symptoms of thyrotoxicosis. Cases of lesser severity also exist, and the etiology may be confusing.
Doctor :   every disease's clinical profile is defined in medicine thru clinical observation
Doctor :   It is thyroid gland disease and involve thyroifd pathology
User :   Yeah these are the symptoms I've had enlarged thyroid that has waxed and waned over a period of a few months.
Doctor :   and as a result it effects the hormonal functions of the body related thyroifd harmones
Doctor :   ok
User :   but is has tended to get better over the past few weeks. I was just wondering what with the thyrotoxicosis and thyroid hormone effects could it affect other parts of the body
Doctor :   When the thryroid gland is over active or under active , body functions are effected

Doctor :   different XXXXXXXX systems are effected
Doctor :   you will see hyperthyroid or hypothyroid symptoms
User :   Ive mostly experienced general fatigue
Doctor :   Yes
Doctor :   It may be due to both hyper or hypo thyroid problem
Doctor :   Subacute granulomatous thyroiditis fluctuates it course between normal, high , low function

Doctor :   The major symptoms of thyrotoxicosis include palpitations, nervousness, sweating, hyperdefecation, and heat intolerance.
Doctor :   mmon signs of thyrotoxicosis include weight loss despite increased appetite, lid lag and stare, sinus tachycardia, atrial fibrillation or high-output failure (in elderly persons), fine tremor, and muscle weakness.
User :   Yeh basiclaly that's what has happened and I have had jaw, tooth, ear pain which I think is all linked. Although I've had a small raised bump on gum, which I think could be linked with everything else that has been going on with the thyroid
Doctor :   xit could be
Doctor :   It could be
Doctor :   Every patient presentsdifferently
Doctor :   Because some times it presents with pain in thyroid gland , the pain might have radiated to the jaw, tooth, ear
Doctor :   But this might be only radiated pain
Doctor :   But the disease does not directly effect gums , teeth,
Doctor :   are you with me ?
User :   Yeah I understand that it is not directly affecting it. Just with everythng else going on its hard not to think it is linked, particularly with the more 'granulamatous' in there and a small bump on the gum
User :   *name 'granulamatous'
Doctor :   No
Doctor :   Granuloma is pathology in thyroid
Doctor :   there are other disease involving granulomas involving other diseases but that does not mean it involve gums
Doctor :   Ex sarcoidodid is a granulomatous disease by pathology, it does not involve gums
Doctor :   It may co incidence that u might have othger problem
Doctor :   did I answer ur Question ?
Doctor :   BYe
