User :   My 7 year old complains that it hurts to breathe and points to the upper middle part of his chest and says it hurts more when he breathes out. He said that periodically his side will hurt too, but he has had his appendix taken out already, so I know the side pain isn't appendicitis. He also complains of headaches periodically and the headaches have woken him from sleep a few times, but are very sporadic. It doesn't look like he gets short of breath though and is very active. Other than these complaints he seems to be completely healthy. Any ideas on what might be going on?
Doctor :   Hi,
User :   Hi
User :   I'm trying to get an opinion about some of my sons complaints.
Doctor :   Does he complain of chest pain while playing or any unaccustomed work ?
User :   Sometimes, but he complains more when he is relatively idle.
Doctor :   ok, Does he get infections often , Mainly respiratory infections ?
User :   No, not really. He's pretty healthy other than when he had appendicitis and he looks like he is breathing fine. He just complains a lot that it hurts to breathe out and that his head hurts sometimes. The headaches have been severe to wake him up while sleeping a few times.
User :   This morning he is complaining about his chest hurting when he breathes, but no complaints of headache.
Doctor :   ok, I do not see any clue for the head ache to be related to the chest pain
Doctor :   i want you to feel his chest , i maen check for any tenderness over the chest wall
Doctor :   is tenderness or pain is localized to any point on the chest i would ask you to apply DICLOFENAC gel over the tender spot
Doctor :   i suspect it to be costochondritis , which is very common in growing children
User :   He says it hurts a little if I push.
Doctor :   then it is more likely to be costochondritis
User :   Is this something they outgrow?
Doctor :   not at all , its inflammation of the highly vascular costochondral joints
Doctor :   its not serious
Doctor :   treated well with topical pain killers
Doctor :   also some times with IBUPROFEN syp in severe cases
User :   That's good to know. I will try the diclofenec and hopefully that will help him and tylenol/motrin when needed.
Doctor :   yes,
Doctor :   is there anything else i can help with ?
User :   No that's all. Thank you very much for your time.
Doctor :   you are welcome
Doctor :   Bye for now
Doctor :   Take care
User :   Bye
