User :   Hello. I am very desperate. I have been having terrible throat issues since I was diagnosed with mono on December 20th 2009. After taking prednisone for 4 days, I started to feel better and slowly thought I was recovering. Shortly after I began to have bad pain in my sides - which has recently been nearly cured by a GI doctor - who, after an endoscopy found that I had gastritis and mild GERD. A few weeks before the endoscopy (and about a month after my mono diagnosis) I began to have throat problems again. It started one day when I felt that I had a little difficulty breathing. I found that my throat was slightly swollen and a family doctor gave me a shot of a steroid to subside the swelling and difficulty swallowing. About a week later, it was very red and raw looking near the back and sometimes gave a burning sensation. Subsequently I got the endoscopy and have been on Nexium 40mg every day since (around 3 months now). However, my throat issues continued on and off - mainly with the sensation of difficulty swallowing and sometimes mild struggle to talk with occasional pain. I tried Augmetin and that provided no relief. It went like this on and off and I have tried zyrtec in case it was allergies - which I have since stopped. I had to have my wisdom teeth out as well and after my surgery my tonsils swelled up and I had to go to the ER to get another steroid dose (IV and an oral dose for 3 days) as well as Ceftin - the antibiotic. After this - my throat was the best it had felt in some time and I had no difficulty swallowing for about 3 weeks - when it all started over again. Since then I began feeling a very severe dry mouth and realized that for an unknown period of time my saliva had been somewhat foamy. No matter what I do I cannot seem to get rid of the dry mouth. I went to an ENT who said that after mono my tonsils had become cryptic and I had tonsil stones - so
User :   I have been gargling with Cleocin Pediatric for about 3 weeks - with no help. At this point, my main problems are the swallowing difficulty (at least the sensation), the extremely dry mouth and my red and somewhat swollen tonsils (that have been swollen for some time). Medications I am on are Nexium 40mg (for about 3 months for GERD), Align - a probiotic - two times a day to help my stomach (which I have been on for 3 months), and the Cleocin Pediatric rinse - for about 3 weeks. If you have any suggestions about what to do or who to see I would greatly appreciate it. I have also just had an MRI of my throat that did not show abnormalities. No doctor seems to know what is wrong and I am trying to get better for my wedding in just 3 weeks. Your help would be GREATLY appreciated. There are also several other tests and things I've tried - please ask because I may have forgotten some things. I don't know if it could be some sort of allergy or infection or post-mono virus or simply more GERD. Thank you for your help!
