User :   i am having minimal change disease for last 6 months. i am taking medicines and uptill last month my urine and blood reports were normal with nil proteins. but last week i had viral fever for which i took medicines from normal physician. after taking antibiotics for 5 days, i satrted getting swelling in my feet again . i immediately got my urine tested. it again shows 4+ proteins. is it due to viral and antibiotics or is it a relapse. do i need to get biopsy done again ?

Doctor :   and i guess, you must be taking steroids for treatment?
User :   yes
Doctor :   swelling of feet, is a common sign of nephrotic syndrome, which is a common symptoms of minimal change disease
Doctor :   there is no need to a repeat biopsy at this time
Doctor :   this disease is very mild condition, can will get controlled easily with treatment

User :   i got my biopsy done before 6 months and it showed minimal change disease. at that time also i was having se=welling of feet , breathlessness , pain in feets. then after diagnosis , doctor started giving me medicines and my protein loss came to nill. but now after taking medicine it has again gone up why ?
Doctor :   u will need to continue the steroid therapy, low salt diet, restricted protein diet (1 gm per kg body weight)
Doctor :   u mean the protien loss has increased ?
Doctor :   are u still on medicines or have u stopped them?
User :   no it was controlled with medicines but my dosage was reduced due to good response. but after viral and its antibiotics it has again gone to same infact more levels. is it due to medicines of viral ?
User :   i am still on medcines but doc has reduced it in quantity/
Doctor :   i think, you need to go back to the original dosage
Doctor :   consult your doc, and he will do the needful, and keep u on the original medicine dosage

User :   do u think my doc will advise me a biopsy again /
Doctor :   i dont think so
Doctor :   he will ask u to go back on the original dose,
Doctor :   if then it still persists, then getting a biospy again can be considered, but right now, a trial of dose revision is recommended
User :   please explain me that my kidney disorder will remain the same na i.e minimal change disease or can it take some other severe form of kidney disease
Doctor :   the chances of progress is 20 %
Doctor :   but the chances to remain the same is over 80%
User :   which type of progress /
Doctor :   it can progress to other forms like focal segmental sclerosis, etc ( forms of renal disease)
