User :   Hi, my last period commenced on 3rd october..i had sex with my partner on 9th and as a precaution approx 30 hours later i took levonelle one step! (there was alcohol taken on the 9th and wasnt sure if condom split although almost sure it didnt) i experiened some side effects..some abdominal pain..almost like the pre-period cramps..some spotting at various times..
My periods are regular and my next one should have started on 31st october, i understand that levonelle can mess up anyones cycle however im now quite concerned as no period has came (16 nov) i have carried out 3 home pregancy tests in the space of the last 2 weeks and all negative, can you please advise me on what to do and if theres any sort of medication available to bring on/induce a period. Many thanks.
Doctor :   Hi,
User :   hi
Doctor :   Let me read your query for few minutes to be able to have a good discussion here.
User :   ok
Doctor :   Do not go for any medications,
Doctor :   as the levonelle itself has heavy dosage of hormones , taking any sort of hormonal medications now can have undesired effects
User :   ok
User :   is what im experiencing a period over 2 weeks late
Doctor :   hence i suggest you to get a blood Hcg test done , to rule out pregnancy
Doctor :   if negative , just wait ,
Doctor :   there can be more than one missed period due to levonelle
Doctor :   and its normal
User :   ok
User :   how long after a blood test will i know if i am pregnant
User :   i obviously dont know what being pregnant feels like but i feel totally normal
Doctor :   the blood test is very sensitive , very next you can rule out pregnancy
User :   just stressed thinking about it
Doctor :   yes, i too consider the stress in you
User :   ok
Doctor :   Is there anything i can help you with ?
User :   im not sure. i just need to see a doctor i think
User :   even that stresses me haha
Doctor :   yes, that would be advisable
User :   but as long as i know that its not uncommon for this to happen
Doctor :   donot worry , proceed as i advised
Doctor :   yes, my experience do say the same,
Doctor :   its a common presentation with levonelle
User :   what do you think the likelyhood is of pregnancy i know its hard for you to tell
Doctor :   with three tests negative , i do not consider any chance of pregnancy
User :   yeah
Doctor :   just to reconfirm with a better test
User :   have you heard of cases like this and taking much longer for a period to commence again
User :   i understand my stress could be keeping it away
Doctor :   yes, sometimes periods can be missed for three months
User :   but you advise to just wait for it to come not to assist it in any way
Doctor :   and most of them do recover after a missed period or as a delayed period
User :   i was under the impression that you dont "miss" a period with levonelle but i must be wrong
Doctor :   yes, do not go for any assisting medications , it could be risky
Doctor :   yes, levonelle has a common side effect of missing periods
User :   ok
User :   should the next one commence at a regular time or is it hard to know
Doctor :   its hard to know the exact tiem
Doctor :   time*
User :   ok
User :   i understand
User :   thankyou
Doctor :   Thanks for consulting me , kindly provide your feedback
Doctor :   Bye for now
User :   yes i will
Doctor :   take care
User :   bye
