User :   What can cause pain like that of early milk let down in a non pregnant non lactating female? The pain comes and goes and my breast have grown half a cup size in the past 2 months even as I have lost 3 pounds. I have been to my family doctor and he did breast exam and a lot of blood work and said everything looked ok and for me to wait till my next cycle was over to see if the pain goes away.

User :   my top weight was 205 when I had my last child

Doctor :   and do u have regular periods even now ?
User :   yes i have all ways had regular periods
User :   the last two have been a little shorter
Doctor :   have u under went any breast examination ?
User :   most times I go light the first day then heavy for the next two then light for one and then i'm done
Doctor :   Do u have any pain in the breasts ? Any swellings that u can make out when u examine them ?
User :   the last two months it has been really light
User :   yes it is a burning pain
User :   when i do my self exams I don't find anything and the doctor didn't find anything
Doctor :   when was the last time a mammogram was done ?
User :   i have not had one to date

Doctor :   when was the last time u had been to the doctor for breast examination?
User :   the pain is in both breasts
User :   last month after i started having the pain
Doctor :   can u mention the blood tests if any done ?

Doctor :   so the examination was normal last month
Doctor :   Do u feel that u have any redness, or itching on the breast or nipple ?
User :   he did a pregnancy test and checked my polactin and thyroid and a few other things too
Doctor :   so was those tests normal ?
User :   my nipples are staying erect but there is no pain or itching in them

User :   my thyroid was a little low and they uped my dose of synthroid
Doctor :   what about the prolactin ?
Doctor :   also are u on any contraceptives ?
User :   I had to have my thyroid taken out in 2006 do to a non cancer lump on my corodid artery
User :   he said it was ok

Doctor :   the most causes of breast pain & swelling in your age group could be fibroadenoma, or lipoma
User :   I am not on any contraceptives do to side effects and my husband is only here for a few weeks a year as he works overseas

Doctor :   i would advice you to undergo a mammogram or a breast ultrasound, which will get us an anatomical picture of the breast as well
User :   is that cancer
Doctor :   no its not cancer

User :   if it is that what can be done for the pain as i really don't like taking any thing for pain
Doctor :   but u can still take some ibuprofen
Doctor :   for the pain
Doctor :   apply some hot baths for soothing of the pain
User :   it upsets my system
Doctor :   can u describe the pain, better
User :   it is a burning down the sides to the middle of both breast and it feels like when my milk would let down after I had my last child
Doctor :   this seems to be due to some irritation of the nerve endings on the nipple
User :   if they get cold the pain is stronger
Doctor :   this is nothing to worry about, as this is a issue with the nerve endings
Doctor :   what u can do is apply some ointment like KY jelly
