User :   I fell down the stairs a week ago and twisted by ankle. No swelling or bruising. Can bear weight okay. Very painful on lateral ankle and lower leg. Very painful when trying to put on shoes. Should I just continue to do warm compresses rest and elevation? Should I have it looked at?
Doctor :   Hi
User :   Hi
Doctor :   May I know your age?
User :   23
Doctor :   Are you sure there is no swelling?
User :   there hasnt appeared to be any
Doctor :   Ok
Doctor :   Does the pain increase with the movements of ankle?
User :   when turning it lateral and down
Doctor :   Ok
Doctor :   Let me explain to you.
Doctor :   Sitting at one end of the computer here, without physically examining you, it is difficult to predict the seriousness of the injury.
Doctor :   However based on your description
Doctor :   it looks like you have sprained a ligament.
Doctor :   It is one of your lateral ankle ligaments that is probably affected when you sprained the ankle.
Doctor :   Sufficient rest, absolutely no physical activity, cold/warm compresses, and anti inflammatory medications are essential in its treatment.
Doctor :   So yes, you need to continue the present treatment plan that you have been on for a week.
Doctor :   Along with the compressors, also use antiinflammatory medications such as ibuprofen 400mg orally twice a day.
Doctor :   Along with it you can use local antiinflammatory creams or sprays - volini sprays over the affected area.
Doctor :   Use creepe bandages during the morning hours also.
Doctor :   These measures should help in faster recovery.
Doctor :   Though your clinical history is classical of a lateral ligament sprain,
Doctor :   if you are looking for a definitive diagnosis, you will need a physical examination and xray of the ankle.
Doctor :   Have you followed what I have suggested?
User :   yes thanks
