User :   Can one transfer HSV-1 to the Genitals via a dildo? and if so would that cause HSV-2?
Doctor :   Hi
Doctor :   Dr xxxxx here
User :   Hello
Doctor :   yes and no
User :   Well let me set the situation real quick
Doctor :   dildos can transfer HSV 1 to someone else
User :   My wife has a cold sore
User :   and she sucked on a dildo for visual stiumulation for me
Doctor :   but transer of HSV 1 does not cause HSV 2
Doctor :   OK
User :   the she set it aside and used it later on herself (about 45 minutes)
User :   so I am just curious if that would do anything to her genitals
Doctor :   there is no need to worry about causing any infection here
User :   ok I just wanted to reassure her, so basically she already has HSV-1 so she can't give that back to herself?
Doctor :   yes
User :   Ok thanks for clarifying, take care
Doctor :   she cant give it back to herself
Doctor :   can u tell me how many days old is the cold sore ?
User :   2 days
Doctor :   has it crusted ?
User :   HSV-1 and HSV 2 are different? yes but she keeps some medicine on it so it is not really crusty
Doctor :   yes both are different versions of the same virus
Doctor :   since she had been treating it, the chances of it being infective is reduced considerably
Doctor :   both of you can relax
User :   ok yeh I can't remember the name of the medicine but it has been on there since it started, she knows when they are coming
User :   Great thanks so much for your help
Doctor :   you are welcome
User :   Have a merry xmas :)
Doctor :   you too
Doctor :   take care and bye for now
